Go To

"The Wedding" is a two-part episode in the fourth season of Full House.

It's Jesse and Becky's wedding day! But things blow out of proportion when Jesse is jailed.

Tropes:

  • Angry Collar Grab: Rebecca grabs Joey by the collar upon finding out what Joey did with Jesse on her and Jesse's wedding day.
Rebecca: [grabs Joey's shirt] You took him skydiving?!
  • Bait-and-Switch Comment: After Jesse jumps out of the plane, Joey looks shocked that Jesse jumped without his... mousse.
  • Break the Cutie: Becky breaks down in tears when she finds out Jesse is late for the wedding.
  • Brick Joke: Prior to jumping out of the airplane, Jesse tells Joey to marry Rebecca if he doesn't survive from his skydiving. After being stuck due to his Parachute in a Tree, the Cliffhanger ends with Jesse frantically but futilely calling out for Rebecca NOT to marry Joey.
  • Cliffhanger: Part 1 ends with Jesse hanging from a tree screaming for help.
  • Hypocritical Humor:
    • In the first part, D.J. and Stephanie make a video about Jesse and Rebecca's wedding, but D.J. keeps giving all credits to herself without so much as a mention about Stephanie, who protests:
Steph: Cut, again! What about me? This video is a wedding gift for me too, you know.
DJ: Okay, I see we have some ego problems here.
    • In the second part, Joey suggests for him and Danny to take all wedding guests to the church parking lot and lie about Jesse's current status so they can Take a Third Option without having to choose between either telling everyone about the truth that might sully the attendants' mood and telling a lie inside a church. Danny scoffs at Joey's idea by calling it absurd... only to make that very suggestion himself when some guests start scrutinizing him about what's happened to Jesse.
  • If I Do Not Return: Before jumping out of the airplane, Jesse tells Joey to marry Rebecca should he not survive the skydiving stunt.
  • Large Ham: Stephanie acts in an overly dramatic fashion where she reads Jesse's letter explaining his wanting to go skydiving before the wedding.
  • Multi-Part Episode: This is a two-part episode centering around Jesse and Rebecca's wedding.
  • Parachute in a Tree: Jesse ends up being late for his own wedding with Rebecca in part due to his skydiving experience that concludes with his parachute getting caught in a tree.
  • Pinocchio Nose: Danny avoids looking at whomever he's lying to in the eye. Both Rebecca and her father notice and comment on this when they ask Danny if something's wrong with Jesse due to the latter's prolonged absence from his own wedding.
    Danny: Nothing's wrong.
Mr. Donaldson: You're lying! I can tell by the way you won't look me in the eye!
    [Rebecca comes out]
    Rebecca: Is everything already, Danny?
Danny: Oh, everything's fine. Perfectly fine.
Rebecca: Then why won't you look me in the eye?
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: Upon some wedding guests starting to scrutinize Danny over the wedding holdup, Danny decides to take Joey's advise by gathering all attendants to the church parking lot and lying to them there, but Kimmy derails the plan via barging inside the church building and blurting out the truth about Jesse's current state loudly enough for all to hear.
Kimmy: Hey, I know why Jesse's late! He's in the slammer!
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Jesse and Rebecca's wedding is held up when Jesse gets himself arrested that morning and Rebecca is forced to drive to the outskirts of San Francisco to retrieve him. After many more mishaps, the wedding is finally held... and the reception ends up being held at the house, because that's what happens when you miss the time frame that you chose for your reception venue.
Danny: [serving champagne and hors d'oeuvres to guests] Groom was late, we lost the hall.
  • Take a Third Option: Upon learning that Jesse's skydiving stunt has resulted in him being jailed, Danny and Joey mull over their choices, not knowing what to do next since the truth is bad enough to risk sullying the other wedding attendants' mood and they don't want to tell a lie inside a church. Then Joey comes up with an idea to get around it: taking guests outside to the parking lot and then lie to them there.
  • Wedding Episode: This episode features Jesse and Becky's wedding.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Both Joey and Jesse are subject to this. In Joey's case, everyone is furious at him for letting Jesse jump out of a plane. In Jesse's case, Becky is furious at him for pulling a dangerous stunt on their wedding day.
