Tropes

  • And There Was Much Rejoicing: Monica celebrates the death of the aunt she inherits the dollhouse from, because the aunt was apparently a grade-A bitch.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Invoked. Phoebe brings a full-sized porcelain dog for Monica's dollhouse, passing off the difference in scale as the house being built over a toxic waste dump.
Phoebe: Every house should have a dog.
Monica: Not one that can pee on the roof!
  • Bad Boss: Joanna takes Chandler not calling her back badly, insulting Sophie for trying to sugarcoat things. When Rachel tries to claim Chandler might just be concerned about any awkwardness over dating a friend's boss, Joanna muses Rachel's the only one with reason to feel awkward about that and strongly hints she'd fire her over this.
  • Big "WHAT?!": Phoebe when told there's been a fire in her dollhouse.
  • Damn You, Muscle Memory!: Chandler says that promising to call a date later is just a compulsion that he truly can't help. He proves it later by doing it twice (including after being honest with Joanna about not wanting to pursue a relationship).
  • Dude Magnet: Mentioned in passing for Rachel. Monica backs up Chandler's assertion that guys always promise to call a date later and never follow through, but Rachel says all the guys who promised to call her did call. Monica is displeased to hear this.
  • Facepalm: Chandler does this after once again instinctively saying he'll call Joanna sometime.
  • Humble Pie: Joey ends up on the receiving end of being used for sex, and The Stinger features him calling every women he's ever slept with and never called back to apologize to them. Of course, in later episodes he'd go right back to normal.
  • I Warned You: While looking over the burned dollhouse, Phoebe wants to check under some cloth. Ross urges her not to look, but Phoebe does and is horrified to see what's become of the foster puppets.
  • Not Helping Your Case: Rachel urges Chandler to call Joanna immediately, saying the woman "has flipped out" and "gone crazy" while waiting for him to call her back. Hearing this, Chandler is even less interested in calling her back now.
  • Not So Above It All: Ross is all in on Phoebe's quirky dollhouse.
  • Prima Donna Director: Marshall Townend openly refers to Joey and Kate as "my talking props" and tells them they're bad actors. Joey refers to him as "a cartoon" but Kate defends him as being brilliant.
  • Start My Own: After Monica won’t let her play with her dollhouse, Phoebe builds her own quirky dollhouse. Rachel and Ross go crazy over it, which makes Monica jealous.
  • Two Scenes, One Dialogue: After their date, Chandler describes Joanna as a "great big dud." This is immediately followed by a scene of Joanna the next morning gushing to Rachel about how great the date went and how she and Chandler clicked.
  • What Does She See in Him?: Joey asks this of Kate after Marshall is particularly obnoxious in directing them.
