Louis lies to Jessica and tells her that he loves her newly-finished horror novel. This leads to Jessica trying to get Kenny Rodgers to publish it. Meanwhile, Eddie and his friends purchase a 300-disc CD carousel to play all of their music, but their different tastes nearly tear them apart.

  • Brutal Honesty: When Louis relates his plight to Honey, she gets some suburban housewives to read Jessica's book to offer a second opinion, and their reviews are quite scathing. Jessica throws all of their notes into the trash the second they leave.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: In The Tag, Jessica's manuscript does end up sent to Kenny Rodgers...and unlike everyone else that had read a copy of it, he loves the story.
  • Hypocritical Humor:
    • After spending half of the episode arguing with Louis for lying to her to avoid breaking her feelings, when asked what she thinks of an ear stud he got to impress Kenny Rodgers, Jessica very obviously lies while complimenting him (which Louis doesn't pick up on).
    • In Eddie's plot, Emery and Evan are the ones to convince Eddie to make amends with his friends and make the carousel communal...but Evan is the first to complain when one of them plays a Heavy Metal song.
  • The Killer in Me: After struggling with the ending of her novel, Jessica being told not to "be her own worst enemy" decides that the secret murderer in her mystery that the protagonist uncovers in the end should be the protagonist herself.
  • Liar Revealed: Jessica ends up finding out that Louis lied about liking the book when he declares that Kenny didn't like her manuscript, before he realizes a Satchel Switcheroo had taken place and he didn't even have the manuscript with him at the time.
  • Plot Hole: In-universe, one of Louis' complaints when he admits the truth about Jessica's book is that it's riddled with these, including one character getting murdered twice.
  • Plot Parallel: Eddie kicks out all of his friends for putting CDs he doesn't like in the carousel despite them all paying for it. Then Trent's CD plays, which is actually an audio documentary on the American War for Independence. Evan and Emery quickly compare Eddie to King George, who made unreasonable demands despite America being owned by the people.
  • Satchel Switcheroo: The day that Kenny Rodgers is visiting Cattleman's to check on the business, Louis accidentally mixes up the manila folder with Jessica's manuscript with one containing her lengthy complaint towards a coffee maker company. He didn't plan to show the folder to Kenny regardless, not wanting to embarrass himself or Jessica, but Jessica realizing the mistake before he does unravels his lies.
  • The Unfettered: Jessica sincerely believes in her book and wants to get it published, no matter what. She convinces Louis to support her novel despite his misgivings by claiming he was the same when he first established Cattleman's.
