With limited edition human organs!

"I think you have tilled quite a lot of soil in your handful of years on this earth. So much wanting... but you've never been able to pluck the fruits of your labor from the ground, have you? The best cultivators are the ones who know when the right time is to pick the crop. A grower, maybe, but a thinker you're not. Sometimes you have to know when to go for it, even when it doesn't look possible."

Oscar is tired of having to be grown-up all the time. His mother often needs him to help her at work and around the house, leaving him little free time to actually be a child. The last straw comes when he misses out on the hot new toy– the Plushtrap Chaser, which sells out just as he finally makes it to the mall. Except then he spots an extra Plushtrap in the back room, hidden by the employees, saying that one isn't for sale. He rushes forwards and takes it anyway. But there truly is something strange and unusual about this Plushtrap Chaser, and it's going to cause a lot more trouble than it was worth...

The sixth Five Nights at Freddy's: Fazbear Frights story, and the third of the second book, Fetch. It was adapted into the graphic novel collection in 2022, replacing "Count the Ways" in the book's story order.

Tropes related to “Out of Stock”:

  • Adaptational Badass: The Plushtrap Chaser possesses quite a few abilities that he has yet to display in the games: not only are his teeth fully capable of eating straight through a garage door, but it also possesses some form of voice mimicry and is able to become so heavy that the boys can't even move it (precluding them from going for the easiest solution and just turning it off). These decidedly non-standard features are revealed in the tenth Stitchwraith epilogue to have been added by Eleanor, for as yet unknown reasons.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Ms. Avila calls her son "Little Man." It turns out this has started to grate on him, as she's stopped seeing him as the child he is.
  • Arc Words: "Sometimes you have to know when to go for it, even when it doesn't look possible."
  • Asian and Nerdy: Raj is most likely Indian, with his and his sister Avni's names having Indian origin. He's just as nerdy as his friends, with his interest in Plushtrap and video games. The deleted illustration makes him look white, but the graphic novel gives him brown skin.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: The Plushtrap Chaser isn't exactly a Cool Toy once it's activated...
  • Big Blackout: During the storm. Apparently this has happened in their neighborhood before, sometimes for days at a time.
  • Body Horror: The malfunctioning Plushtrap Chaser has its mechanical eyes and teeth replaced with human ones.
  • Cats Are Mean: Jossed; one of the men at the nursing home is convinced that the hospital cat is trying to steal his soul. Oscar frequently has to go into his room to calm him down.
  • Character Catchphrase: Isaac likes to remind Oscar that "You're an idiot."
  • Childhood Friends: Oscar, Isaac and Raj have been friends since they were little.
  • Cool Toy: The Plushtrap Chaser is the hottest new toy at the moment, selling out across town at a rapid-fire pace. It's able to walk, recognize light signals, and bite.
  • Creepy Doll: A tiny version of Springtrap can rarely be anything else.
  • A Day in the Limelight: For Plushtrap, who originally appeared in a Five Nights at Freddy's 4 minigame.
  • Deer in the Headlights: The literal mechanism of Plushtrap's deactivation (and ultimate demise). Bright light directed at its eyes immediately freezes it in place.
  • Disappeared Dad: Oscar's father was killed from a fatal infection while getting a tonsillectomy.
  • Dramatic Thunder: There's a huge storm going on while Plushtrap is trying to kill the boys.
  • The Dutiful Son: Oscar, who hates having to give up his childhood to help out his mom, but does it anyway because he loves her and knows she has no other options.
  • Education Mama: Implied for Raj's mom; he says that if he skipped school, he'd be sent to boot camp.
  • Everybody Lives: Despite the setup, all the human characters make it out alive. Plushtrap gets hit by a train, but he... probably? wasn't alive.
  • Fatal Flaw: If bright light is directed at Plushtrap's eyes, it will immediately freeze in place. Oscar uses this to defeat the Plushtrap Chaser by jumping in front of an oncoming train, thus causing the Chaser to get run over.
  • Hair-Raising Hare: Plushtrap is a toy rabbit that has way too many teeth and is very eager to use them.
  • Halloween Episode: Plushtrap comes to life at night on October 30th, as the boys are planning for Halloween.
  • Haunted Technology: Plushtrap definitely has Agony in it. Maybe a soul as well, who knows?
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: Oscar really just wants to be a normal kid, and not a constant failure who's made to be a little adult.
  • Killed Off for Real: Plushtrap; he's run over by a train, and then the Stitchwraith picks up its parts.
  • Killer Rabbit: A literal example in Plushtrap.
  • Lightning Can Do Anything: The Plushtrap Chaser seems to activate after it and Oscar are electrocuted in a storm.
  • The Little Shop That Wasn't There Yesterday: The Emporium had been present for longer than a day, but it suddenly closed after Oscar and his friends obtained the Plushtrap Chaser.
  • Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: Are the Plushtrap Chaser's abilities the result of it being tampered with by its previous owner, it possibly being possessed by a spirit, or both?
  • Mechanical Abomination: Plushtrap Chaser, big time. Not only is it supposed to look creepy, but now it's got human eyes and teeth.
  • Monster of the Week: Plushtrap Chaser.
  • Murderous Malfunctioning Machine: Plushtrap only activates after being electrocuted. Could his behavior be a mere mechanical malfunction?
  • Nerd Glasses: Raj is illustrated with glasses in the graphic novel.
  • Noble Shoplifter: Despite taking the Plushtrap without permission, Oscar does still leave money on the counter for it, a fact he brings up when his friends call him out.
  • No Full Name Given: For Raj and Isaac.
  • The Paranoiac: Mr. Devereaux, who has to be calmed down by Oscar on a regular basis, and is convinced that the cat is trying to steal his soul.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Despite his size, the Plushtrap Chaser can bite through doors, furniture, and metal walls.
  • Plot Armor: Oscar gets electrocuted and then nearly run over by a train, and is still able to walk and work the next day. Good for him?
  • Power Outage Plot: The power in the entire neighborhood goes out, just as the Plushtrap comes to life. Shame that means there's no light to stop it...
  • Power Trio: Oscar, Raj and Isaac, who do everything together.
  • Rage Breaking Point: You might think Oscar's breaking point would be stealing the Plushtrap Chaser. Nope! Turns out it's when his Mom asks him to work on Halloween. His built stress causes him to lash out over the phone at her, finally telling her his feelings about being forced to grow up and admitting to stealing the toy.
  • Rambling Old Man Monologue: Mr. Devereaux is apparently a frequent rambler.
  • Signature Headgear: While not mentioned in text, the graphic novel always illustrates Isaac with a blue beanie.
  • Slasher Smile: On Plushtrap Chaser.
  • Struggling Single Mother: Ms. Avila, who works overtime at the Nursing Home, and has little time or money to spend. Her overwork causes her to ask her son for help a lot, which puts a strain on their relationship.
  • Toy-Based Characterization: In a way; Oscar's desperation to get the Plushtrap Chaser drives the plot, his eventual breakdown at his mother, and his relationship to the other characters.
  • Train Escape: Isaac and Raj manage to get across the railway and to the light of the town in attempt to escape Plushtrap. Oscar, meanwhile, decides to wait on the train tracks until Plushtrap is too close, and then leap out of the way of the moving train in order to destroy the toy once and for all.
  • Weakened by the Light: Plushtrap Chaser can only move in the dark. So when it starts attacking, Oscar and his friends become desperate to keep their flashlights working.
  • Working-Class Hero: Oscar, Raj and Isaac's families live on the literal wrong side of the tracks. They're all pretty poor, and the richer side of town gets power over them in emergencies.
