On Halloween, Fanboy and Chum Chum accidentally wake up at 6:00 in the morning and try to find a way to enjoy some candy to pass the time. They visit a pumpkin monster, Mr. Trick, who tricks them into losing their sense of taste, and they must find a thousand screams should they wish to have their taste back, not knowing they're in for an even worser trick than they thought.
Tropes:
- Big "NO!": Both Fanboy and Chum Chum scream this in unison after Mr. Trick steals their taste, impacted with Eat the Camera.
- Bittersweet Ending: The episode was originally going to have this, where the boys do not get their taste back but still enjoy the fun. It was changed to a truly happy ending where they do get their taste back, as the writers deemed the original ending too harsh.
- Blank White Eyes: Kyle gets these as he's summoning the balhok. All of his attendees have these as they release their screams, including Fanboy and Chum Chum.
- Brick Joke:
- Oz's plan to make a candy ark is described the beginning of the episode but doesn't reappear until the very end to save the candy.
- In an alternate ending, after Chum Chum's grapes fall into fire on Kyle's table, they fall out of nowhere into his plate.
- Comically Missing the Point: When the boys suggest making a haunted house, they want to use spaghetti for worms and grapes for eyeballs.
- Deus ex Machina: Oz's finished candy arc coming out of nowhere to plug up Mr. Trick's geyser, causing it to explode and return everyone's candy.
- Disney Acid Sequence: The "C-A-N-D-Y" sequence is this.
- Does This Remind You of Anything?: After the boys leave and Kyle is mocking Mr. Trick behind their backs, his hand movements are quite suggestive.
- Et Tu, Brute?: Both Fanboy and Chum Chum toward Kyle, after failing to give him their screams the first time and again after learning Mr. Trick is using them to steal all the candy in the world.Fanboy: Kyle, what have you done?!
Chum Chum: We told you this was over your head!
(They kick him out) - Fetch Quest: The second part is this. To get their taste back, the boys have to fill a cooler with 1,000 screams by sundown and bring them to Mr. Trick.
- Instant Costume Change: The boys instantly change into their costumes very fast.
- Jump Cut: When the titular duo says "trick or treat" to Mr. Mufflin at the start, they are up to the door, but in the next shot, they are suddenly at the bottom of the stairs.
- Halfway Plot Switch: The boys spend the first half of the episode wanting candy due to waking up super early. The second half of the episode becomes a Fetch Quest where they struggle to get their taste sense back.
- Halloween Episode: Notably the only episode of the series where an event in real life is celebrated on the show.
- Heel–Face Turn: Thanks to Fanboy using all the taste on Mr. Trick, he turns good.
- Heroic Sacrifice:
- Fanboy ends up giving the taste to Mr. Trick, causing him to perform a Heel–Face Turn. He gives them back their taste seconds later.
- A deleted scene shows they don't get their taste back after all by episode's end.
- Late to the Realization: The special begins with FB and CC getting ready for Halloween on what appears to be nighttime, but upon visiting Mr. Mufflin, they realize it was really 6:00 in the morning.
- Overly Long Gag: Kyle notices Mr. Trick's angry face, causing to scream repeatedly, all day to be exact, but just enough for Fanboy and Chum Chum to collect.
- Shout-Out:
- The episode title is a reference to the 2007 film There Will Be Blood.
- Oz's candy arc is similar to Noah's Ark.
- "And what happened next? A miracle they say: Mr. Trick's pumpkin head grew TWO smiles that day!"
- Mr. Trick is obviously one to a certain "pumpkin king" who also wears a fine-looking suit.
- Lenny and Boog are hunting for a ghost, complete with vacuums. Fanboy even says, "We ain't afraid of no ghost!".
- Race Against the Clock: The boys have until sundown to bring 1,000 screams to Mr. Trick, otherwise they won't get their taste back.
- Revised Ending: The original ending to the episode has the boys not getting their taste back by episode's end, and Chum Chum's grapes from before falling onto his plate out of nowhere as a Brick Joke. This was revived into a happy ending where they do get their taste back and Mr. Trick gives them taffy which turns their teeth purple.
- Unreveal Angle: Mr. Trick's "angry" Beetlejuice-esque face is only seen from behind.
- Unwitting Pawn: Not only were FB and CC tasked with collecting the screams before sundown to get their taste back, but they were also unknowingly aiding Mr. Trick with his plan to destroy all candy forever.
- Voices Are Not Mental: When Chum Chum is dressed as Fanboy, his voice doesn't change; justified, since he's in a costume.
- What Happened to the Mouse?:
- Lenny and Boog are grappling with a ghost that was released from the Frosty Screamy Scream cup, but we never see what happens to them after Fanboy and Chum Chum leave the Frosty Mart.
- We don't get to see where Kyle goes after Fanboy kicks him out.
- What the Hell, Hero?: Fanboy and Chum Chum give one to Kyle after realizing this was a plot to destroy all candy and he helped them as a result.
