- Deidre Jackson is said to have killed three of her past opponents, and proudly promises that she'll do the same to Lois in their fight. Real life boxers would not be permitted to continue fighting if they'd repeatedly killed people, and are obviously not allowed to commit premeditated murder in the ring.
- During their fight, Jackson grabs Lois' fist when she throws her first punch, which would not be legal in an actual match.
- The Boxing Episode: Lois becomes a boxer and finds herself competing against one of the fiercest female boxers ever seen.
- Bratty Food Demand: Peter threatens to start breaking windows if Lois doesn't make him flapjacks and starts making good on it offscreen, even lampshading the whole situation.Peter: This is crazy. Is nobody really making me flapjacks yet? At this point, you're all being as irresponsible as I am.
- Bullying the Dragon: Despite initially being put into matches against her will, none of her opponents let her forfeit and start punching and goading her. Cue a three second Curbstomp Battle when they finally reach her Rage Breaking Point.
- Career-Ending Injury: Downplayed. Lois' nose being broken in her penultimate fight doesn't prevent her from boxing ever again, but it does convince her and Peter that it's time for her to retire.
- Contrived Coincidence: Peter mentions that Lois always wears a matching sports bra and shorts under her dresses when she goes out for dinner. He tears off her dress to reveal this when he lures her into a boxing match.
- Cutaway Gag: Unusually for the series, this episode only has a single cutaway after Lois wins her second fight.
- Defeating the Undefeatable: In Lois' final fight, she defeats Deidre Jackson, the most dangerous fighter in Rhode Island.
- Double Entendre: When Brian explains just how dangerous Dierdre Jackson is to Stewie.Brian: She's killed three people in the ring. Her fists are so dangerous she's not allowed to be a lesbian.
- Expy: Deidre Jackson is a blatant one of Clubber Lang.
- Manipulative Bastard: Peter's idea of convincing Lois to box is to blindfold her, tell her that he's taking her somewhere special for dinner, then push her into the ring with an opponent already waiting.
- Never My Fault: Peter claims that the rest of the family are being as irresponsible as he is for not making him flapjacks, even as he continues to break windows, despite the fact that it's physically impossible to make flapjacks in the 15 or so seconds that Peter broke at least three windows (as well as breaking windows over not getting his flapjacks being a gross overreaction).
- Underdogs Never Lose: Despite being a housewife with very little experience, Lois never loses a single fight in her boxing career. The only opponent who poses any challenge to her is Deidre Jackson, and she still emerges victorious.
- Whole-Plot Reference: The episode homages several moments from the Rocky films, complete with a Training Montage set to "Gonna Fly Now". The second half in particular is loosely based on the premise of the third film, with Deidre challenging Lois at the unveiling of her statue just as Clubber challenged Rocky.
