Recap / Family Guy S 17 E 6 Stand By Meg

Go To

After she saves him from choking, Stewie tries boosting Meg's social standing. While Chris attends vocational school.

  • Acting for Two: Invoked. Stewie tries to make Meg popular by giving her all the roles in school plays. We see her performing the balcony scene from Romeo and Juliet, playing both Romeo and Juliet.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Despite having an obvious crush on Kevin in the pre-cancellation episodes (and even having moments of Ship Tease in some of the post-cancellation episodes), not even Meg is desperate enough to go out with him at this point.
  • I Owe You My Life: Stewie devotes himself to making Meg's life better after she saves him from choking to death.
  • Italian-American Caricature: Chris is sent to a vocational school full of Italian-American Greaser Delinquents. He starts slicking back his hair, wearing only white tank tops, and referring to himself as "Chrissy"; Peter only gets him to snap out of it by slapping his face and telling him "You're breakin' ya mother's heart!"
  • Mood Whiplash: After a stray grape gets knocked off the picnic table, it starts singing a somber musical number about being alone, only to randomly get squashed by somebody's foot.
  • Ship Sinking: As said above, this episode puts the final nail into the coffin of the Meg/Kevin ship.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The title is a reference to Stand by Me.
    • The scene where Chris is shown around the vocational school is a parody of the famous scene in GoodFellas where Henry and Karen walk through the Copacabana.
    • When Peter and Lois accuse Chris of being a trainee mobster, Chris claims to be in waste management.
    • Chris following Principal Shepherd and forcing him to let him back into high school is a parody of the sequence in The Godfather Part II where Vito kills Don Fanucci.
