Recap / Family Guy S 13 E 18 Take My Wife

Go To

Lois books a vacation in the Bahamas for Peter, Cleveland, Donna, Joe, Bonnie, Quagmire, and Quagmire's latest hookup (a blond bimbo named Kimi) that turns out to be a couples' counselling retreat — and things get dangerous when the Bahamian resort workers stage a revolution. Meanwhile, Lois' grandfather (Carter) tries to teach Stewie, Meg, Chris, and Brian how to have fun without relying on electronic devices.

This episode includes examples of:

  • Accidental Murder: Peter hastily reveals that he killed one of the fake revolutionaries in misguided self-defence off-screen, then quickly boards the plane home, with nothing else mentioned about it.
  • Artistic License – Law: A Cutaway Gag has Stewie get a law degree from the University of Phoenix, immediately become a lawyer, and lose a murder case. Needless to say, obtaining a law degree is not enough by itself to be admitted to the bar, and University of Phoenix doesn't offer law degrees regardless.
  • Bigger Is Better in Bed: Zigzagged in a talk about your feelings exercise.
    Kimi: My cervix hurts.
    Quagmire: I feel pride.
  • Bullying the Disabled: When asked what Bonnie's favorite food is, Joe assumes it's ground glass because he keeps finding it in his food.
  • Coconut Meets Cranium: Peter tries to invoke this so he'll be knocked out and wake up with no memory of the counselling retreat. It backfires horribly - not only does the coconut give Peter a bloody head injury, instead of erasing Peters memories, the damage ends up reawakening repressed ones about Peters dad abusing him.
  • Department of Redundancy Department: "Hey, let's all go down to a swimming hole and swim in a hole!"
  • Everyone Has Standards: Peter is disturbed that the couples councellor knows Adolf Hitler's birthday off the top of his head. For those who are curious, it's April 20th.
  • First-World Problems: Played hilariously darkly when Peter complains about being tricked into coming on the retreat by Lois to one of the workers, a man with several badly healed injuries, a missing leg, and a missing eye.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: Even after Peter and Lois get back from their vacation, Brian and the kids are adamant they they don't need technology to have fun anymore. The announcement of "Police Chases...THAT END IN FIRE!" immediately changes their minds.
  • Naturally Huskless Coconuts: At one point, Peter shakes a coconut tree that clearly has huskless coconuts growing on it.
  • Racist Grandma: One of the old-timey games Carter introduces Brian and the kids to is "flour-bagging", which he says was originally a way to harass Italian immigrants and keep them from voting. It's basically ding-dong-ditch combines with throwing flour in the face of the person opening the door.
  • Sexiness Score: Brian and Stewie visit a "Hot or Not" website, with pictures that can be ranked between one and ten. While they wildly disagree on the first two pictures (an attractive blonde woman and a handsome, muscular man), they unanimously decide that Carey Mulligan is a "five".
  • Take That!: The aforementioned University of Phoenix bit is a jab at them for being a degree factory.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Peter is furious that Lois conned him and his friends into going on a couples counseling retreat.
