Recap / Dragons Riders Of Berk S 1 E 15 Twinsanity

Go To

The Berserkers are coming to sign a treaty, so Hiccup and the riders have to hide their dragons. Only problem is that the twins are having a huge fight, which means their dragon is out of control. Even worse is that instead of Oswald the Agreeable, his son Dagur the Deranged comes, bent on war.

Tropes

  • Always Save the Girl: Stoick nearly kills Dagur to save the twins' dragons, saying that he is willing to risk war.
  • Always Someone Better: Dagur stabs a table when a toast is called for his father.
  • Bad "Bad Acting": Hiccup's performance is remarkably terrible as he pretends to "protect" Dagur from Toothless while whacking the latter with a shield.
  • Bread, Eggs, Breaded Eggs: Taken to hilarious extremes when Tuffnut says he is out of the "Dragon business. And the sister business. And the dragon-sister business . .. 'drister' business."
  • But for Me, It Was Tuesday: Dagur gives a laugh when he recalls drowning Hiccup as "good times".
  • The Caligula: Dagur, and it shows when he gives himself the title of "Deranged."
  • Call-Back: Dagur knows about how Hiccup lost his leg fighting the Red Death, and that he "trained" a dragon. Hiccup barely fends him off with Obfuscating Stupidity.
    • This is also the first time the Red Death is referred to by its name.
  • Chekhov's Skill: Fishlegs's hand signals come in super handy to fake a dragon attack.
  • Deadly Euphemism: According to Dagur, Oswald has been "retired."
  • Establishing Character Moment: Besides the horrifying tales we hear about Dagur, the very first thing he does onscreen is toss a knife at Hiccup.
  • Evil Laugh: Dagur gives a long one when Hiccup recalls how the former would drown the latter while giving "swimming lessons".
  • I Can Explain: Hiccup says this when Dagur nearly catches him trying to tame Barf and Belch.
  • Just Eat Him: Tuffnut gives this as an order to his Zippleback head, to eat his sister.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": Several times in the episode.
    • Stoick, Gobber and Hiccup when they realize that Dagur instead of Oswald the Agreeable has come to sign with them.
    • The Berkians when Barf and Belch storm into the mead hall, giving Dagur a dragon to hunt.
    • All the teens except Hiccup, who gives a Death Glare, when Snotlout casually reveals that the Berserkers are going to behead Barf and Belch.
  • Noodle Incident: Dagur seems to have many of them:
    • He tried to behead Astrid during a fight.
    • He locked Fishlegs in a cage for three days and fed him rotten fish heads.
    • Hiccup recalls Dagur once nearly drowning him. Dagur laughs about it
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Hiccup when Dagur nearly catches him trying to control Barf and Belch.
    • Dagur right before Toothless shoots a fireball at him.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here:
    • The twins disappear to their "dark, soggy place" following their fight.
    • Dagur leaves and verbally says the treaty is signed when Hiccup "rescues" him from a wild Night Fury.
  • Title Drop: Hiccup and Dagur come close to dropping the title of the movie.
Hiccup: I don't even... how would you train a dragon?
Dagur: I don't know — how would you?
  • What Would X Do?: When trying to control Barf and Belch, Hiccup tells himself to "think like the twins, I can't believe I said that."
