Recap / Dinotrux S 03 E 07 Wings

Go To

After having a dream where he could fly, Ton-Ton becomes obsessed with the idea of flight and works with the Ottos to build a pair of wings to make his dream a reality.

Tropes:

  • Awesome McCoolname: "The Silent Dude", especially given that Ton-Ton always says it in a hushed tone.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase:
Otto: Let us up with the trooxing!
Otto: Otto, you have really bungled that one! Let us troox it up!
  • Call-Back: Needing an extremely rare replacement part, Revvit decides to instead use the Lavaduct as a forge to create their own, which Skya notes is similar to how she used D-Structs' lava pit to forge a battering ram.
  • From Bad to Worse: A rockslide traps Ace and the Ottos on a lone pillar, which turns out to have a nest of Scraptor eggs on it, which turn out to be mere hours away from hatching.
  • Game Changer: This is the first episode to deal with the full implications of the Dinotrux now having access to a lava pool. Not only is the major build of the episode made entirely out of forged metal which is integral to making the design work over the shaped scrap prototypes had used, but the need for a rare replacement part has driven the plots of entire episodes but here a new one is simply custom forged in a few minutes as a minor plot point.
  • I Like Those Odds: By Otto's calculations, the chance of making working wings for Ton-Ton is 1.7% Otto likes those odds and agrees to help.
  • Meaningful Name: Ton-Ton nicknames the Ottos based on what they do; "Numbers", because she does all the calculations, "Wings" because he did most of the design work of the wings and "The Silent Dude" because he doesn't say much.
  • Musical Spoiler: The first designs of Ton-Ton's wings clearly weren't going to work as their construction was not set to the usual building song.
  • The Nicknamer: Having trouble keeping the Ottos apart, Ton-Ton decides to nickname them "Wings", "Numbers" and "The Silent Dude".
Wings: [The Silent Dude] got the cool one.
  • Not Quite Flight: By the Otto's calculations, true flight is infeasible, and instead create designs that should allow Ton-Ton to glide. He accepts this as close enough.
  • The Quiet One: One of the Ottos only communicates with the occasional grunt, earning him the name of "The Silent Dude".
