Kelpie (Chapter 14)

The Touden Party at last reaches the Fourth Level which consists of ruins and a mystical lake all around. And not wanting to expose himself to Marcille's magic, Senshi calls on his kelpie "friend" in the hopes of moving across the water.

Porridge (Chapter 15)

As Senshi butchers his former friend while Marcille does her own project, Laios and Chilchuck come across some Sirens and leftover barley which can be used to make their next meal.

Broiled with Sauce (Chapter 16)

The journey through the watery ruins takes a drastic halt by a surprise kraken attack. But Marcille and Senshi come up with a strategy to save the day and see if they can make a meal of the multi-armed monster. Oh, and Laios eats a parasite and gets food poisoning from it.

"Kelpie" contains the following tropes:

Kelpie tallow soap
  • Bad Samaritan: The scarred man who awakens Kabru and his friends does so but expects payment for his service. He also doesn't tell them about the Treasure Insects in order to ensure that he can exploit more suckers in the future.
  • Big "NO!": Senshi screams this over his refusal to use Marcille's water magic.
  • Continuity Nod: Kabru's party wakes up to find that their "treasure" is gone and that ghost-repelling hair has been tied to their arms.
  • Disney Death: Turns out that the Treasure Insects only paralyze their targets rather than kill them. As such, Kabru and his friends wake up without injury.
  • The Farmer and the Viper: Senshi has spent some time interacting with a kelpie and believes she's trustworthy enough to ride. Unfortunately, the horse doesn't feel the same and submerges him underwater to kill him.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: In spite of his hostile attitude, Laios was proven right not to trust Anne as she does try to drown Senshi in the lake.
  • The Nose Knows: Kabru's kobold companion uses his super sniffer to identify Laios and his party.
  • Non-Answer: Senshi gives Marcille the silent answer when she asks if he's interested in washing his beard.
  • Our Kelpies Are Different: Senshi summons a kelpie he has named Anne which resembles a regular horse with seaweed for hair. To Senshi's dismay, she actually tries to kill him despite him vouching for her to Laios.
  • Resistant to Magic: The water walking spell has no influence on Senshi the first time. The group speculates that his beard and body is filled with so much monster juices and oils that it's made him impervious to magical spells.
  • Underwater Ruins: The party reaches the Fourth Level which consists of a mystical lake covering the ancient ruins. There's even a castle town hidden at the bottom of the lake.
  • Walk on Water: Marcille uses a spell on everyone so they can walk on top of the lake.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Marcille and Senshi are offended by Laios' refusal to trust Anne and his suggestion that it would be better to eat her.

"Porridge" contains the following tropes:

Barley porridge using randomly found barley
  • Adapted Out: The anime leaves out Kabru's party arriving at the Fourth Level and being wiped out by fishmen, showing only Laios and Chilchuck's perspective of finding their bodies.
  • Beat Them at Their Own Game: Done unintentionally. The Sirens stop their hypnotic singing when they hear Laios singing their song, only off-key and in an opera-esque manner. Though, as it turns out, Laios was more interested in singing alongside them rather than against them.
  • Butt-Monkey: Once again, Kabru's party ends up being defeated by dungeon monsters and, while unconscious, need to rely on Laios and friends for help.
  • Friendship Moment: Marcille creates soap from the kelpie's fat for Senshi to use, whether it be for hygiene or to clean his dishes. Not only does Senshi accept her gift but he also agrees to use it on himself so they can put her hard work to good use.
  • Hard-Work Montage: With Senshi's permission, Marcille goes to work in grooming the dwarf's hair using her new soap.
  • I Ate WHAT?!: Chilchuck identifies fish eggs hidden in the seaweed and realizes that Laios put them in there without telling anyone. But knowing how Marcille would react, he keeps it a secret from her.
  • Mimic Species: Laios brings up how fishmen fashion seaweed on their hair to resemble mermaids.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Chilchuck quickly realizes that he made a huge mistake in permitting Laios to add a fishman's hair into the porridge.
  • Noodle Incident: Laios has memorized the Siren's song and laments to not being able to sing alongside them again.
  • No. Just... No: As soon as he sees Laios eyeing the dead fish man, Chilchuck slaps his face and tells him no.
  • Our Mermaids Are Different: Fishmen are also considered mermaids but they fall under the "fish" category while sirens are in the "mammal" category.
  • Our Sirens Are Different: Sirens in the dungeon world resemble mermaids who use their beautiful singing to lure adventurers to their doom.

"Broiled with Sauce" contains the following tropes:

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/misleading.png
Giant parasite from a kraken, broiled with and without sauce
  • Always a Bigger Fish: A squadron of fishmen try to ambush the heroes while they're squabbling. But they never get the chance to when they're ambushed themselves by a kraken.
  • Bait-and-Switch: A first-time viewer is likely to believe the meal of the segment will end up being a kraken, but it instead turns out to be a parasitic worm.
  • Call-Back: Senshi once again argues with Marcille over using a flashy magic attack while reminding her of the importance of maintaining the dungeon's ecosystem.
  • Chekhov's Skill: Marcille uses her water-walking spell on the kraken to make it easier for Senshi to kill it.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: While pondering the events of their recent adventure, along with Laios becoming gravely ill from his new parasite, Senshi comes to realize that adventurers also play a part in maintaining the dungeon ecosystem rather then disrupting it like he initially believed.
  • Fiendish Fish: The segment starts with the party trying to fight flying fish with razor sharp fins.
  • Kraken and Leviathan: The party end up having to fight a giant red kraken.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Marcille screams this almost word for word when she realizes that she gave Laios the idea to cook the kraken.
  • Off with His Head!: The kraken chucks the decapitated head of a fish man to Chilchuck like a soccerball.
  • Resistant to Magic: The kraken the party fights takes no damage from Marcille's offensive spells. However, it isn't immune to non-offensive spells which Senshi exploits to defeat it.
