On the day of the apocalypse, Clausen executes a search warrant at the power plant as Jonas and Claudia use the time machine to connect past and future.


Tropes:

  • Alas, Poor Villain: Noah fails in his attempt to save his family and betraying Adam, and is killed by his own sister.
  • Armor-Piercing Response: When Stranger Jonas berates Young Noah why he follows Adam, he replies back with 'Why did you ever follow her? Claudia?'
  • Big Damn Heroes:
    • Alt!Martha saves Jonas from dying in the Apocalypse.
    • Stranger Jonas saves Bartosz, Franziska and Magnus by whisking them away moments before the Apocalypse hits.
  • Big Damn Reunion: Between 1987!Claudia and Regina, who initially wrote her mother dead.
  • Blood from the Mouth:
    • Noah, after he is shot by Agnes.
    • Martha, after she is shot by Adam.
  • Cynicism Catalyst: A self-inflicted variation via Time Travel. Adam kills his past self Jonas's love interest Marta in order to induce the Start of Darkness that will put him on the path to becoming Adam.
  • Death by Irony: Noah kills a man in the start of Season 2 for his initiation into Sic Mundus, and he is killed by Agnes for her re-initiation into Sic Mundus, and as a test for her loyalty.
  • Downer Ending: Noah fails to kill Adam and ends up dead due to his betrayal, Adam kills Martha to solidify his own existence, and the Apocalypse occurs in Winden as planned, resulting in multiple casualties.
  • Died in Your Arms Tonight: Martha in Jonas's arms.
  • Dramatic Irony: Jonas encourages and guides 1987!Claudia in the time travel, whereas Stranger Jonas doesn't have a high opinion of her anymore due to her manipulating all of them.
    • Young Noah thinks highly of Adam, even considering him his friend. It comes right after the scene where his older self lashes to Adam regarding the stuff he made him do, trying to kill him, and ends up dead for his efforts.
  • Extradimensional Emergency Exit: When the Apocalypse begins in Winden, an alternate version of Martha shows up to save Jonas, bringing him to the Alternate Universe that she originated from.
  • Gone to the Future: Young Noah travels from 1921 to 2020 to deliver Martha's letter, but gets to the bunker to save himself from the impending Apocalypse.
  • Hope Spot: Noah tries to kill Adam to avert the Apocalypse and save his family, but his gun jams and he dies in the attempt.
    • The God Particle forms, and then vanishes, later becoming a rift in time leading to its collapse.
    • Jonas and Martha finally accept each other for who they are, just in time for Adam to kill Martha.
  • I Just Want to Be Special: Young Noah convinces Stranger Jonas to save Bartosz, Magnus and Franziska by stating Adam (his older self) always believed the Stranger to be their savior.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • Charlotte learns from Torben regarding the accident in the Power Plant.
    • Bartosz, Magnus, Franziska and Martha learn about the impending Apocalypse from Stranger Jonas, but unfortunately Martha is killed before she could escape.
  • It's All My Fault: Bartosz blames Stranger!Jonas for the strange things happening in the town, and Jonas agrees with him.
  • Killed Off for Real: Both Noah and Martha bite it in this episode.
  • My Own Grampa: Elizabeth and Charlotte are their own grandmothers, with Elizabeth birthing Charlotte in the future and Charlotte birthing Elizabeth in 2011.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Clausen's determination to find Aleksander's link to the missing kids accidentally brings about the Apocalypse.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Noah when his gun jams when attempting to kill Adam.
    • Jonas when Adam shows up in 2020.
    • Charlotte when hearing Clausen is opening up the radioactive barrels.
  • Only Sane Man: Charlotte is the only level-headed person in the police force, trying to warn Clausen from opening the yellow barrels, and finally connecting the Apocalypse's link to their lives.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Noah gives an extended one to Adam after the former figures out how much Adam has lied to him and made him do his dirty work.
  • The Reveal: Elizabeth is actually Charlotte's mother, making Charlotte her own grandmother.
  • Sibling Murder: Agnes kills Noah under Adam's orders to secure her loyalty to Sic Mundus.
  • Stable Time Loop:
    • It's implied Adam sent Young Noah with Martha's letter to 2020 to jumpstart Sic Mundus, in order to bring Stranger Jonas, Bartosz, Magnus and Franziska to the beginning.
    • Adam kills Martha to ensure his younger self will become the Stranger, and then later, him.
  • Start of Darkness: Adam kills Martha to induce pain in Jonas that will stay with him until he becomes Adam.
  • Tempting Fate: Several.
    • Bartosz tells his mother he will come back to her for good.
    • The nuclear power plant was to undergo a controlled shut-down on June 28th.
    • Peter assures Elisabeth her mother and sister will be joining them soon.
  • Time Crash: The true cause of the Apocalypse, as Charlotte and Elisabeth meet each other in the rift.
  • Wham Episode: Charlotte and Elisabeth both turn out to be each other's mothers and daughters.
    • Adam kills Martha and Noah.
    • Martha from an alternate universe saves Jonas from the Apocalypse, and takes him to her universe.
  • Wham Shot: Another Martha with short hair looking at Jonas cradling the dead Martha.
    • Before that, in the beginning of the episode, 2053!Elisabeth looking on to her precious belongings, looking at her baby, Noah and her... the same baby who will grow up as Charlotte.
  • Wham Line: 'The question is not from what time, but from what world.' This turns a time travel story into one about alternate universes.
  • You Can't Fight Fate: Stranger Jonas advises Katharina not to try bringing Mikkel back to 2020, as Mikkel is fated to stay in 1987.
