Ulrich runs afoul of the law, Helge tries to dodge Egon Tiedemann, Claudia harnesses the cave's power, and Katharina lashes out at Hannah.
Tropes:
- Abusive Parents: Katharina tells Regina that her mother hit her in the face because of the rumor that Ulrich raped her.
- Be Careful What You Wish For: Helge's mother tells the priest that she used to wish that something happened to Helge because he might not be her husband's son, but regrets this now that he is missing.
- Blatant Lies: Hannah when trying to 'convince' Katharina that Ulrich had a crush on her and wanted to leave Katharina for her as he didn't love her anymore, when we know it's actually the reverse.
- Crazy-Prepared: Hannah had kept Aleksander's real details with her in case she needed to blackmail him, for 33 years.
- Dramatic Irony:
- In 1986, Egon can't shake the feeling that Ulrich has something bigger going on. By this point, the audience knows that Egon had already arrested Ulrich's future self...in 1953.
- Katharina assumes Ulrich has been avoiding her for Hannah, while we know Ulrich is arrested in 1953 for 'murdering' the boys.
- Door Slam of Rage: Katharina goes to Charlotte's office, asking her where Ulrich is. Charlotte can't tell her and Katharina assumes that he is with Hannah, slamming the door in rage when she leaves.
- Forced into Evil: Hannah blackmails Aleksander to destroy Ulrich's life in retaliation for Ulrich scorning her, else she'd leak the fact that the director of the power plant is a criminal in hiding.
- Frame-Up: Hannah states Regina told her grandfather about Ulrich in 1986, once Katharina lets slip she is going to beat the perpetrator bloody.
- Hope Spot: 1953!Egon arrests Ulrich right at the front of the entrance of the Winden Caves.
- If I Can't Have You…: Hannah lies to Katharina that she did not want a relationship with Ulrich but that he pressured her and told her that he wants to leave Katharina because he doesn't love her anymore. She also blackmails Aleksander and orders him to destroy Ulrich's life by whatever means necessary.
- I Have No Son!: Inverted for Claudia and Regina. Claudia states to Bartosz Regina disowned her as her mother because she was too indulgent as the power plant director.
- Madness Mantra: 'But I changed things...'
- Missed Him by That Much: Ulrich accidentally took the wrong path, and ended up in 1953 whereas 2019!Helge went to 1986.
- The Mole: Aleksander has Torben Woller as a contact in the Winden Police, as both of them helped to move the barrels, as well as using the latter for credible material on Ulrich.
- Motive Rant: Noah gives a calmer one to 1986!Helge, telling him completing the time machine will end up changing humanity's destiny into a glorious future.
- My God, What Have I Done?:
- Ulrich is clearly sorrowful about 'killing' Helge to correct the timeline, and falls straight into Despair Event Horizon once he realizes those murders still happened.
- Claudia admits Regina didn't see her as a good mother because she neglected her daughter during her time of need. She states she'd do things differently if she had the chance.
- Greta admits she treated Helge harshly as she's not sure he is Bernd's son. She wants Helge to come back safely.
- Papa Wolf: Bernd wants Helge back, even if it costs him the power plant.
- Pet the Dog: Boris, later Aleksander saves Regina from getting hurt or worse by threatening Ulrich and Katharina in 1986.
- Rescue Romance: Implied between Aleksander and Regina; during their first meeting in 1986 he saved her from Katharina and they are Happily Married in 2019.
- The Reveal:
- Aleksander Tiedemann is actually Boris Niewald, who used to be a criminal before coming to Winden.
- The left fork in the Sic Mundus Creatus Est sends one back 66 years, and the right fork sends one back 33 years.
- The kill chair in the bunker is actually an incomplete time machine, and the young boys were the experiments.
- Starting a New Life: Aleksander used to be called Boris, but he took up someone else's identity in 1986.
- Stop, or I Will Shoot!: 1953!Egon starts to chase Ulrich, suspecting that he is involved in the murder of the boys and Helge's disappearance. When Ulrich keeps fleeing, Egon fires a warning shot into the air, making Ulrich stop.
- Time Travel:
- Gretchen has traveled from 1953 to 1986, reuniting with Claudia.
- 2019!Helge has actually traveled to 1986.
- Well-Intentioned Extremist: Noah certainly thinks of himself as such.
