Tropes

  • A Day in the Limelight: Along with Black Adam, the Justice Society and the Shazam family also take focus.
  • Ambiguous Situation: The Rock of Eternity raid ends with Deadly Isis doing...something to Felix Faust after he's defeated, with his body vanishing as a result. Whether or not he is gone for good remains to be seen.
  • Back from the Dead: The goal of the episode is this with Isis.
  • Battle Couple: Black Adam and Deadly Isis when she joins the team.
  • Brought Down to Badass: In "The Treachery of Black Adam", Greed will seal away your skill set and you can still fight him, but without that power, you won't last too long, leading you to quickly dive for a treasure chest to restore that power.
  • Damsel in Distress: Isis is this for the entire episode. But in a subversion, by being split into her "Deadly" and "Virtuous" halves, she does help save herself after she is convinced to team up with the others against Neron.
  • Deal with the Devil: Black Adam makes one with Neron. With predictable results.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: After all the hardships, setbacks, and trickery, Black Adam and Isis are finally reunited after the final battle against Neron.
  • Exact Words: Neron offered to return half of Isis to Black Adam in exchange of Kahndaq, which he agreed. However, he didn't specify which half of Isis he would give him.
  • Grave Robbing: Tomb raiders have been taking advantage of the chaos in Kahndaq by doing this, forcing Black Adam to recruit help to stop them.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After defeating her, Black Adam convinces Deadly Isis to join forces with him against Neron.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Felix Faust attempts to use Black Alice to take Black Adam and Shazam's power, but Alice isn't having any of that and instead gives him the power of Laziness.
  • How We Got Here: "The Treachery of Black Adam" shows how Infernal Kahndaq became what it has become, as told by Billy Batson on W.H.I.Z. Radio
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Black Alice calls out the hypocrisy of the player group, bringing up the fact that retrieving souls and bringing them back to life is often said by the heroes to go against the natural order, only for this time to be treated as an exception. It's for that reason she attempts to stop them.
  • Nominal Hero: Black Adam, of course. He may want to protect Kahndaq and save Isis, but it's because of his deal with Neron that Kahndaq is in trouble in the first place. And while he finally chooses to work with players to have a better chance of saving Isis as opposed to working with known backstabbers like Felix Faust, he still opts to betray them to Neron the moment it's convenient for him to do so, only to get backstabbed once again. His only redeeming trait is his love for Isis though to his credit, he is genuinely thankful when she is finally saved.
  • Power Parasite: Black Alice's abilities seem to operate like this as she steals the powers of various people, some of whom aren't even in the room as she's fighting the players and Black Adam's team, like Doctor Fate. Towards the end of her fight she can even combine the powers of multiple people. However, she doesn't seem to be able to do this to the players.
  • Roaring Rampageof Revenge: Deadly Isis' attack on Kahndaq is this as she wants its people to suffer the way she did. It is hinted that she may feel this way because her death was a result of defending the city in the first place. Fortunately, Black Adam helps her see reason after she is defeated by the players.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Black Adam seems to have this with most of his new allies, particularly Shazam and Metamorpho. Mary, at least, seems to get some amount of respect, as does eventually the player character.
  • The Ground Is Lava: Neron does this in both fights against him. He is unable to ground players in the solo fight so flying players can essentially avoid the mechanic entirely.
  • Zombie Apocalypse: Not the first time this has happened to Kahndaq, but now they have demons to add to the list. The mummies from the Godseye Pyramid are attacking the city and kidnapping citizens to throw them in coffins...for some reason.
