Jones: When our Chief told us to help her friend, I admit I didn't expect it to be at a strip club...

Chief Parker sends Jones and the player to The Maneater, her best friend's male strip club, to solve the murder of stripper Voodoo Vince, who dropped dead during his act after being poisoned.

Tropes

  • Alliterative Name: Voodoo Vince.
  • Ambiguously Gay: When you ask Bateman about what he was doing in The Maneater, he nervously denies being there for the strippers, claiming he just reunited there with some clients. Whether this is true or Bateman is a Closet Gay is left unanswered.note
  • Birthday Episode: The Additional Investigation has the police department planning a birthday party for the Chief per her best friend's request, which ends up happening in her strip club.
  • Call-Back: Christian Bateman reappears as a suspect.
  • I Can't Believe I'm Saying This: Rupert does this on Amir's behalf when he tells you one of the killer's traits is drinking Pink Thong cocktails, finding unbelievable how Amir can say such a thing with a straight face.
  • Childhood Friends: Kiki Shae, Chief Parker's best friend and the owner of The Maneater, appears as a suspect.
  • Chippendales Dancers: Both the victim and Thunder Dave, his duo, are this.
  • Cliffhanger: The case ends with Amir informing you that Meera Kat is going to perform an art show with real lava tomorrow, leading to the department worrying whether this is a good idea or not.
    • There's also one at the end of the 2nd chapter when Jones and Player crash the police car against a tree.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Maylin Park, the victim's girlfriend, was jealous of all the attention he got from other women due to his job despite the fact claiming earlier that she wasn't bothered about it.
  • Contrived Coincidence: Maylin, one of your suspects, happened to know Zoe Kusama due to both women being in the Grimsborough Asian Women's Association, providing you with an important clue about her disappearance during the Additional Investigation by giving you Zoe's diary.
  • A Day in the Limelight: For Chief Parker, as most of the Additional Investigation is focused on the department celebrating her birthday.
  • Disposable Vagrant: During the Additional Investigation, you discover that Zoe was investigating the disappearance of dozens of homeless people over the city (including Trey Warner), which had been occurring for at least six months, and the only reason why the police didn't know about it is because they were people no one cared about. Jones wonders why Zoe never told him anything about it.
  • Disposable Sex Worker: Vince, to his killer.
  • Entitled to Have You: Nicolette Butler certainly thinks she's entitled to treat the strippers however she pleases. This led to her murdering Vince because he warned his coworkers about her creepy behavior.
Nicolette: I paid the money, didn't I? Mama gave the sugar! The boys were mine to do with as I pleased! And Vince dared turn them against me!
Jones: You... they're humans, not things! You don't own them, no matter how much money you spent at the club!
  • Expressive Hair: Whenever Jones gets shocked or freaked out, his hair tends to spike up. It happened here, once he saw how expensive the bill was to pay for the repairment of the police car he crashed.
  • Fan Disservice: During Chief Parker's birthday party, Ramirez, a chubby middle-aged man, pops out naked out of her cake. The chief doesn't seem to mind, but Jones...
Jones: (covering his eyes): Is it over? Is it safe to look? Has Ramirez put on some clothes?
  • Guyliner: Thunder Dave wears eye glitter as part of his stripper attire.
  • Happily Married: This case introduces Ray, Chief Parker's husband, attending her birthday party, which he doesn't seem to mind despite taking place in a male strip club and having a bunch of half-naked men dancing for her.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: Thunder Dave at first claims him and the victim were this, but you later learn they were rivals.
  • Hunk: Thunder Dave. Just look at him.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Rupert does this during one of his analyses.
Rupert: <Player's Name>, I know you're pressed for time and you don't want me to go on rambling, as one sometimes does as one gets older, I admit-
Jones: That rambling thing? You're doing it right now.
  • If It's You, It's Okay: Maylin, the victim's girlfriend, didn't mind him working as a stripper since she knew he only had eyes for her. Later Subverted, though, when you discover she was starting to grow jealous of all the attention he got from other women.
  • Jumping Out of a Cake: During Chief Parker’s birthday celebration at the strip club, Ramirez jumps out of a cake naked, much to Jones's horror.
  • Let Us Never Speak of This Again: Jones tells this to the department after Chief Parker's birthday party, mainly because of what happened with Ramirez.
  • Luminescent Blush: Jones constantly blushes throughout this case due to the setting being a strip club, as one of your suspects is a very Hunky man whose chest is always exposed and another is the club's strippers' "mommy."
  • Mrs. Robinson: Nicolette Butler, one of your suspects and killer, is 55 years old and likes to constantly refer to herself as the strippers' sugar mommy.
  • Never My Fault: During her trial, Nicolette declares herself "not guilty," considering it was Vince's fault she killed him due to warning the other strippers about her creepy tendencies.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: We never do learn the real names of either Voodoo Vince or Thunder Dave.
  • Plastic Bitch: One of the killer's traits is that they've had plastic surgery, and Nicolette, the (very selfish and unpleasant) killer, looks like this.
  • Poverty Food: After the Shockingly Expensive Bill for fixing the police car, Jones tells you he already has spent a month eating instant ramen due to bad financial decisions.
  • The Rival: Voodoo Vince was this for Thunder Dave, as Vince was becoming a Superior Successor and stealing all the fame and money from Dave.
  • Shockingly Expensive Bill: While we don't get to see it, Jones's reaction towards the cost of fixing the police car he crashed is all we need to know he's going to spend another month only eating instant ramen.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The victim, Voodoo Vince, is a parody of Magic Mike.
    • In the Garage scene, there is an altered "We Can Do It" poster.
    • MagiCard is a parody of MasterCard.
    • Protox is a parody of Botox.
    • "You Can Leave Your Tie On" is a parody of "You Can Leave Your Hat On".
  • Stag Party: Played straight with Cathy (whose bachelorette party apparently featured male strippers) but hilariously Averted with Alex, as he chose go to the arcade during his bachelor party according to Jones.
  • Stalker with a Crush: Nicolette had been constantly harassing Vince because of this, which led to him warning the other strippers about her and Nicolette ultimately killing him.
  • Stalker without a Crush: According to Bateman, Vince had been stalking him because he wanted Bateman to finance his own strip club, and continued insisting even after Bateman denied it.
  • Superior Successor: The victim was this for Thunder Dave, as Vince was hired as Dave's replacement while he took a few days off due to surgery. Vince then quickly became more popular and received more tips than Dave, which led to a rivalry between them.
  • Surprise Car Crash: At the end of Chapter 2, Jones gets distracted while driving and talking to the player and crashes into a tree. Both of you are fine... but Jones' wallet ends up taking a hit.
  • Surprise Party: The Additional Investigation has Kiki and the police department organizing a surprise birthday party for Chief Parker.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: This case shows one of the risks of talking to your passenger while driving in the form of Jones crashing the patrol car into a tree after getting distracted recapping what you've learned about the case.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: Jones has this to say when you find a cream for abs-enhancement, which he deduces belongs to Thunder Dave.
  • Tampering with Food and Drink: Vince was killed when his killer put botulinum toxin into his drink.
  • Tempting Fate: Oh Jones, you never learn when to shut up.
Jones: I'm really worried, <Player's Name>. At this point, I'd even welcome a good case to distract me.
Chief Parker: It just so happens that I have on for you!
  • Testosterone Poisoning: Martine asks Jones and the player if they haven't been to a stripper club show before, citing all the sweat and testosterone as its selling points. Jones isn't convinced.
  • That Came Out Wrong: The following statement:
Jones: Well, <Player's Name>, this case is certainly off to a fleshy... I mean, flashy start!
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Kiki accuses the victim of being this, as he intended to start his own strip club and become her competition despite the fact Kiki was the one who gave him a job in the first place.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene:
    • Thunder Dave is only seen with an open waistcoat from the waist up and nothing more.
    • During Chief Parker's birthday party, Ramirez jumps out of her cake completely naked, though thankfully we only see him from the waist up too.
  • Wrench Wench: Mailyn Park, the victim's girlfriend and a suspect, works as a mechanic. She's even put in charge of fixing the patrol car crashed by Jones.
  • Ye Goode Olde Days: Once again, Rupert does this regarding strip clubs, much to Amir's skepticism.
Rupert: You know, <Player's Name>, in my day, there were no "strip clubs." People just gathered around for a nice cup of tea.
Amir: When was that? The fifteenth century? Because you won't convince me there were no strip clubs in the '60s, Rupert!
