Amy: You're right, we should recap the evidence before getting emotional. We know the killer pretends to be the legendary Night Walker...

While talking a walk near a bridge to clear her mind about all the things that have happened to her in White Peaks, Amy, along with the player, find the body of Roberto Vasquez, the urban myth hunter obsessed with the Night Walker, stabbed to death with icicles.

Tropes:

  • Apocalyptic Log: During the investigation, you unlock a part of a recording in Roberto's phone, where he appears running from the Night Walker before being killed. Then while arresting Duncan, Hannah brings you the whole recovered footage, where Duncan is seen stabbing him to death.
  • Back for the Finale: Désiré Bower, Allen Muir, and Miriam Young all return as suspects in this case, which is the last one set in White Peaks. Duncan Young, who has made appearances all over the district, also becomes a suspect in here.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Duncan tries to manipulate Amy with this while asking for her help when you discover he's the Night Walker.
Duncan: Amy, I've protected you all my life - now it's your turn! Help me escape, and I'll make everything alright, I promise!
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Duncan, the Nice Guy and Cool Big Bro you've hanged out and made friends with, is revealed to be none other than the Night Walker, a Serial Killer pretending to be a monster.
  • Break the Cutie: Amy utterly loses it after Duncan's trial, finally fed up with all the crap she's been put throughout White Peaks.
Amy: I'm sorry, <Player's Name>, I need some time to... to hide in the dark and cry!
  • Broken Pedestal: By the end of this case, her family, her hometown, and her old memories have become this for Amy, who now sees them as a shadow of their former selves.
  • Calling the Old Man Out: Amy finally calls out her mother for her treatment of her children.
  • The Climax: For the White Peaks district.
  • The Corpse Stops Here: Subverted. Somehow, you find Duncan right at the scene of the crime (and later you discover he's indeed the killer), but he's treated as a regular suspect rather than outright pinning the murder on him.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: Désiré argues that, even if the Night Walker isn't real, its supposed existence has still caused deaths across White Peaks, such as Virginia's death.
  • Everyone Is a Suspect: Invoked by Amy, who tells you she doesn't want to continue this investigation because all the people she loves are suspects.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: Amy gets one after you find a fake eye with a threatening message sent by Russell to the victim.
Amy: Hmmm... it's funny, because we know a Dr Crane, don't we, <Player's Name>? Russell's last name is Crane, and he's a Doctor!
Oh, wait, it's not funny! Please tell me this heinous eye couldn't have come from Russell!
  • Fallen Hero: Duncan, once a great policeman who got rejected by society after becoming a cripple, opted for turning into a Serial Killer after learning how to walk again.
Duncan: After I was shot and lost my job with the police, everyone turned away from me! I was no longer a hero, just a cripple!
I taught myself to walk again, just to prove them wrong! And that's when it clicked: I was like the legendary Night Walker! We were both heroes shunned by society!
Honorable Dante: Is that why you killed those girls who disappeared in the forest? And then you kept them frozen in the ice cave, like a giant refrigerator?
Duncan: I killed them because they had everything I'd lost: beauty, youth, happiness! I wanted to preserve all that beauty in ice, so they'd never be broken, like me!
Well, Roberto was an exception: he was ugly as sin, but he almost blew my cover. That was just damage control.
Honorable Dante: What a sad, fallen hero you are, Duncan Young. I pity your family who stood by you all this time, blissfully ignoring you were a monster.
  • Forgotten First Meeting: For some reason, Amy and Allen act like they don't know each other after becoming friends in the previous case.
  • Gory Discretion Shot: The footage of Duncan killing Roberto fades to black just as he stabs him to death.
  • He Knows Too Much: Duncan killed Roberto after he discovered he was the Night Walker.
  • Heroic BSoD: After having her boyfriend arrested, her best friend killed and belittled by her abusive mother, and her brother turning out to be a Serial Killer, Amy becomes so disillusioned with everything Chief Marquez has to put her on a leave.
  • Human Popsicle: You find the victims of the Night Walker frozen in a wall inside an ice cave that serves as a lair.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Roberto was killed by being stabbed with icicles.
  • Improvised Weapon: The murder weapon is a set of icicles.
  • Insane Troll Logic: Désiré tells you he can't be the Night Walker because he doesn't believe in it.
  • Insists on Being Suspected:
    • Russell doesn't mind about being suspected since the Night Walker could be anyone, including him.
Russell: For example, I've just made a cup of blackberry tea. Can you smell it? Don't forget to write it down, Amy, it's part of the killer's profile!
And you already know I love puzzles, too! I was the one who helped you discover this evidence, remember? I hope this secures my place on your suspect list, <Player's Name>!
    • Miriam also insists on becoming a suspect just to spite Amy, since she can't believe she's suspecting her own brother.
Miriam: What choice did he have? It's easy to bully someone who can't defend himself! <Player's Name>, if my son is a suspect, make ME a suspect, too! Let Amy humiliate her entire family!
  • Ironic Nursery Tune: The Night Walker has one used by parents so children stay out of the woods.
Amy: Wait, I know these words! "If the birds are 'fraid to sing... and a chill the wind does bring... a shadow moves just out of sight... the Walker visits us tonight!"
  • Last Episode, New Character: Played With. Duncan is a suspect for the first time in this case, but he had made minor appearances beforehand.
  • Meaningful Echo: When questioned for the first time, Duncan tells Amy he expects her to do the right decision when the time comes. Then during his arrest, after Amy refuses to help him escape, she says she's doing the right decision.
  • Mistaken for Gay: Amy believes Désiré was in love with Roberto when you find pictures of the victim in the mayor's tablet.
  • My Beloved Smother: Although Miriam blatantly favors Duncan over Amy, her overemphasis on his past achievements made him believe that he had somehow failed her after his career as a police officer was destroyed following his accident. Amy believes this to be a major contributing factor that made him eventually become the Night Walker.
  • Never My Fault: When you show Duncan's diary to Miriam where he describes how she called him a failure and implies this led to him becoming the Night Walker, she denies Duncan would ever wrote something like that about her, and instead tries to make Amy feel bad for arresting her own brother.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: In an attempt to give an alibi to her son Duncan, Miriam ends up sprouting valuable information for his killer's profile, allowing you to arrest him.
  • Not Helping Your Case: When interrogating Russell, he tells you that the Night Walker is "someone very clever who will deny it and try to outsmart you", which as Amy points out, fits his profile perfectly.
  • Obfuscating Disability: It turns out that Duncan was able to walk all this time, but stayed on his wheelchair so no one would suspect he was the Night Walker.
  • One of Our Own: Russell becomes a suspect in this case after you discover he sent a threatening message to Roberto, telling him he was wrong about the Night Walker.
  • Resigned in Disgrace: Amy tries to quit the police force at the end of Chapter 2, believing herself to be too weak and cowardly to work as a police officer, though Chief Marquez manage to snap her out of it.
  • Right Behind Me: Implied at the start of the case when Frank recalls all the things that have happened to Amy ever since she arrived to White Peaks, only for her to pop out of nowhere.
Amy: Thank you for your concern, Frank. But my family and past are none of your business. Or are you trying to say I'm not fit to work?
Frank: Amy! I didn't see you... but it's not what I meant!
  • Scary Scarecrows: You find one with the Night Walker's face, made by Allen so people leave him and his forest alone.
  • "Scooby-Doo" Hoax: In the end, the monster known as the Night Walker turns out to be nothing more than a man wearing a mask, hiding behind the legendary Urban Legend to commit his crimes.
  • Seeking the Missing, Finding the Dead: You encounter the missing girls kidnapped by the Night Walker, stabbed and frozen inside a giant block of ice inside the Night Walker's lair.
  • Shout-Out:
    • In the Covered Bridge scene, there is a sign that faintly reads "Sleepy Hollow".
    • In the Mountaintop scene, there is a Moai.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: Amy finally has enough of her mother insulting and belittling her during the Additional Investigation.
Amy: You don't get to demand anything, ever again! We're through, Mother! I don't need your approval anymore!
  • Stalker without a Crush: Désiré had been following Roberto because he wanted him to stop talking about the Night Walker since it gave the Love Village and White Peaks bad publicity.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Duncan has one when Amy refuses to help him escape after you arrest him.
Duncan: Have I ever let you down, Amy? Have I not been your hero all your life? I'm the only one in your family who ever loved you! Just help me escape, dammit!
  • Wham Episode: The Night Walker, the monster you've been looking for the entire district, is none other than Duncan, Amy's brother and the first friend you made in White Peaks.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Amy gets infuriated with Russell after the latter admits he sent a threatening message to Roberto to make fun of him, since he found Roberto's theories about the Night Walker to be laughable.
Amy: Russell, I don't recognize you! You've been very cruel to poor Roberto! And worse: you made yourself a suspect just when <Player's Name> needs your skills more than ever!
  • What Would X Do?: Chief Marquez uses this to stop Amy from quitting the force, asking her what would her brother do.
  • You Have Failed Me: As we see in Duncan's diary, Miriam called him a failure after he ended up in a wheelchair and stopped being a hero, which led to him turning into the Night Walker.
  • You Should Have Died Instead: Allen thought this of Roberto, since the latter allowed Virginia to die when the two of them where investigating about the Night Walker.
