As the player and Jones are eating their lunch outside, a model named Emma Ternon is thrown out of a window.

Tropes:

  • Beauty Is Never Tarnished: Despite being pushed out of a building, Emma's face only gets a slight bruise at best. It probably helped that she landed on her back.
  • Call-Back: Rachel Priest and the events of Case 13 appear/are mentioned again.
  • Continuity Nod:
  • Destination Defenestration: How Roger killed Emma.
  • Disposable Sex Worker: The victim actually was a prostitute, since her modeling agency is actually a front for an escort company.
  • Drinking on Duty: Or rather, taking drugs. Richard is arrested at the end of the case for taking cocaine even while working as a plastic surgeon.
  • Foreshadowing: At the end of the case, Rachel insists that Alden Greene is involved in some shady stuff, and she will prove it with or without your help.
  • Harassing Phone Call: Emma received one from Roger, the killer.
  • He Knows Too Much: Roger killed Emma because she knew about his malpractices as a plastic surgeon and could accuse him at any moment.
  • Jerkass: Even if he isn't the killer, Richard Dobbs is absolutely unpleasant towards both the player and Jones.
Jones: It's a shame that being an a**hole isn't enough to lock someone away for life...
  • The Jinx: Josie believed Emma to be this, which is why she cast a voodoo spell to kill her.
  • Kiss of Death: Symbolic example; Roger kissed Emma before pushing her off the window. Unfortunately for him, this left some clues on Emma's lips that could be used against him.
  • Lampshade Hanging: The fact that a murder happens every time they try to eat doesn't escape Jones.
Jones: I'm getting scared to eat now: every time we try, a murder happens...
  • Last-Second Word Swap: Happens after Josie is introduced.
Jones: This must be the crazy old bi... lady Richard told us about.
  • Narcissist: According to Jones, every killer in the Financial Center is vain.
  • Running Gag: Once again, a murder interrupts Jones from eating his hot dog.
  • Shout-Out: Josie Picket resembles Yetta Rosenberg.
  • Skewed Priorities: Rachel seems to be more interested in the info Emma had for her than the poor woman's death.
Rachel: Do you realize that if she was killed because of the information she had, this story really could be HUGE!
  • The Tease: Rozalina Davidov, Emma's boss, calls her this, and theorizes it probably was the reason why she was killed.
  • Tempting Fate: At the start of the case.
Jones: I don't care if a psychopath with a chainsaw runs right past us, I'm not doing anything until we've eaten our hot dogs!
    Emma: Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
  • Too Much Information: Jones is disgusted when Roger tells him that he and Richard share both business and their escorts.
Jones: You're a bunch of sickos, the both of you! I mean, seriously!
