A terrible curse leaves Craig as the only kid in the creek.
Tropes:
- Be Careful What You Wish For: Craig refuses to eat some bizarrely flavored snacks, saying he'd rather be boring than "weird". Since he's the only one who ended up not eating anything, he's the only one who doesn't get sick, leaving him in the creek alone.
- Companion Cube: Craig makes stand-ins for Kelsey and J.P. out of rocks and trash. He becomes concerned when he starts speaking for them.
- Continuity Nod: Kelsey encourages Craig to try new food, just like how she started reading science fiction instead of just fantasy.
- Foreign Queasine: J.P. eats some hot cabbage and clams flavored chips.
- Genre Savvy: Watching a bunch of sci-fi shows makes Tabitha realize Craig is going through a "supernatural morality tale" where he has to learn some sort of lesson.
- Masochist's Meal: To break the "curse", Craig collects bits of weird food from all over the creek. The Witches mix it all up into a gross smoothie that Craig has to drink to bring back his friends.
- Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: Another moment for the "witches". Telling Craig that eating the gross food he rejected will bring back his friends is almost certainly them trolling him. But after he drinks the smoothie made from the food, the very next day the creek is full of kids. Obviously they were going to recover from a simple cold eventually, but for everyone to recover all at once...
- Picky Eater: Craig doesn't want to try any of the oddly-flavored food the other kids are eating.
- Plague Episode: Kit's refusal to take off while she has a cold ends up getting every other kid sick through the food she sells to them, except for Craig.
- Serendipitous Survival: All of Kit's food was infected with her cold, but the chocolate log Craig bought was knocked out of his hand and he didn't want to try anything else. He ends up the only one who doesn't get sick.
- Skyward Scream:
- "I'M THE ONLY KID IN THE CREEK!"
- "THE ONLY CREEK KID IS ME!"
- "I'M THE ONLY KID IN THE CREEK!"
- Shaped Like Itself: Kelsey tries to talk Craig into sparing with her by saying it's like dancing. Craig says he knows something else that's like dancing, and we cut to them dancing.
- That Came Out Wrong: Happens when Neil reads the letter Kelsey wrote for Craig:Neil: Enjoy what little time you have left. [Beat] Ok, now it sounds like I'm threatening a child.
- Twilight Zone Twist: Conversed by Tabitha when she compares Craig's situation with a "supernatural morality tale" from the show Tales From the Shadow Zone.
- Working Through the Cold: Kit won't let anyone else run the Trading Tree, so she works even though she has a terrible cold. She ends up making everyone she served sick, leaving Craig as the only healthy kid.
