Recap / Code Prime - R1: Rebellion, 22 "Divided They Fall"

Go To

The newly arrived Knights of the Round join Cornelia, Airachnid, and the Seekers on a mission to find the Harbinger, leading them into conflict with the Rebellion.

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: The Florence was not introduced until during the Time Skip between R1 and R2 in Code Geass, while the Mordred and the Tristan didn't show up until R2. All three show up here.note
  • Adaptation Expansion: This is the second of two chapters that take place during the Time Skip between Cheering Mao and Nunnally Held Hostage.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: Airachnid asks a series of questions at Cornelia to rile her up. All of them involve Euphemia. First, she asks why Euphemia hasn’t been thrown to the curb due to how she has not involved herself in either politics and the military despite Britannia’s "Survival of the Fittest" mentality, which is followed by what would Cornelia do if the Emperor ordered her death. Cornelia completely loses her composure over the last question.
  • Armor-Piercing Response: When Lelouch uses his Geass on Cornelia, he first interrogates her on his mother’s death before asking what she would do if she knew that he was Zero. She tells him that she would have joined him, and when Lelouch asks why, Cornelia answers that it’s because she loves him, and that she never stopped loving him even after he and Nunnally were exiled. This catches Lelouch completely off guard because he always thought she turned her back on him when he and Nunnally were exiled.
  • Divided We Fall: It's in the title. The Decepticons' unwillingness to trust each other, much less the Britannians, causes them a fair amount of trouble, particularly after Airachnid goes rogue. Not only do they end up losing the Immobilizer, but Lelouch is also able to Geass Cornelia and learn all of Britannia's military appointments in Area 11.
  • Enemy Mine: Cliffjumper and Monica briefly team up to take down Airachnid after she turns the Immobilizer on both sides. It didn't last long as both of them end up in the same state.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Lelouch uses his Geass to erase Cornelia’s memories of his interrogation, as well as his identity, to protect her and Euphemia from the Emperor and Megatron.
  • Let's Fight Like Gentlemen: When Cornelia cuts herself free from her restraints, attacks Kallen and Kallen pulls her gun, Cornelia taunts her about fighting her head on, and the Black Knight obliges, throwing her gun away while Cornelia does the same with her knife and they proceed to fight bare-handed.
  • Neck Lift: Megatron holds both Thundercracker and Skywarp by their throats while pressing his feet on Starscream's chest and Airachnid's head while tearing into them for their bickering and backstabbing.
  • Punk in the Trunk: Cornelia spends the duration of her capture Bound and Gagged inside the back of Bumblebee's vehicle mode.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Cornelia completely loses it when Airachnid asks her if she would do nothing if the Emperor ordered Euphemia’s death, or if she would either do the deed herself or betray the Emperor to save her sister.
  • Rebuilt Pedestal: Lelouch had long thought that Cornelia had turned her back on him and Nunnally when they were exiled. Upon learning from a Geassed Cornelia that she never stopped loving him, the pedestal is rebuilt, and it convinces him of the possibility that she could be a potential ally.
  • So Proud of You: Optimus gives such a speech to Lelouch at the end of the chapter, praising him for his growth in his better characteristics and expanding his circle of trust.
  • Villainous Demotivator: Due to the Decepticons losing the Immobilizer, a pissed-off Megatron puts his figurative (and literal) foot down onto the Seekers and Airachnid and tears down their Chronic Backstabbing Disorders followed by more wailing on their hides. By the end of the chapter, he instructs Starscream, Thundercracker, Skywarp, and Airachnid to put aside rivalries and work together; not because he wants them to be friends, but because he's sick and tired of their bickering getting in the way of wiping out the Autobots.
  • Villain Has a Point: An interesting case where it's one villain making a point to another - Airachnid makes a point of reminding Cornelia that Lelouch and Nunnally were actually treated very well by the Japanese after a rocky start, and that they only (appeared to have) died due to the Britannian Invasion.note
