Recap / Chucky S 2 E 7 Goin To The Chapel

Go To

Jake and the others try to perform an exorcism.

The episode provides examples of:

  • Actor Allusion: This episode references The Exorcist with Chucky as the evil spirit being exorcised which is funny considering his actor Brad Dourif had appeared in The Exorcist III (theatrically released around the same year as the second film) also as an evil spirit being exorcised.
  • Anger Born of Worry: Upon reuniting with Andy, after having learned about the Heroic Suicide stunt he tried to pull with the delivery truck, Kyle hugs him tight and lightheartedly scolds him for it.
Kyle: You ever do something that stupid again, I’ll kill you myself, okay?
  • Asshole Victim: Ruth, one of Chucky's willing accomplices, gets an Eye Scream courtesy of Glenda.
  • Bittersweet Ending: One of the biggest in the franchise. Many good people are dead (including Nadine and Jennifer), Glen is in critical conditon, and Dr. Mixter has escaped. But Chucky is finally dead, freeing the kids and Nica from his torment, and allowing Andy and Kyle to retire in peace... though if Dr. Mixter's laughing is anything, that might not last for long.
  • Book Ends: Andy and Kyle leaving the school for greener pastures is intercut with them doing it in 1990.
  • Celebrity Casualty: Jennifer Tilly (in doll form) dies when she gets hit by a truck.
  • Chekhov's Gun: When Glenda visits Chucky, he asks them to bring him a knife he stashed away, which they refuse to do. Later when Sister Ruth holds Lexy at gunpoint, Glenda throws the knife at Sister Ruth, killing her.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: MANY. Aside from the aforementioned Eye Scream, Father Bryce explodes due to his Chucky possession, the real Jennifer Tilly gets run down by a semi truck, and Andy dispatches the final doll by shooting off his jaw and shooting it MULTIPLE times before letting him bleed out.
  • Dead Person Conversation: Nadine’s spirit descends from Heaven as an angel to give Lexy one last heartfelt pep talk right when she needs it most. Or it could have all been one big hallucination brought on by Lexy nearly overdosing on the pills Good Chucky gave her in the previous episode.
  • Demonic Possession: Chucky possesses the body of Father Bryce during the exorcism before causing his body to explode. And the last scene suggests that he has done the same thing with Dr. Mixter.
  • The Dog Bites Back: After Tiffany dismembered her and held her captive for a year, a vengeful Nica holds Tiffany at gunpoint as she begs for her life.
  • Eye Scream: Glenda kills Ruth by tossing Chucky's knife into her eye. She pulls it out and stares at it for a few seconds until she falls over.
  • Flipping the Bird: Devon does this after Chucky mocks Devon about his relationship with Jake.
  • Get Out!: Father Bryce says this to Dr. Mixter as she gives her confession about wanting to unleash Chucky Prime on the world.
  • Kick the Dog:
    • Chucky mocks Jake over Gary and Nadine's death, and his arguments with Devon, making it seem that "Nice Chucky" was an act.
    • Chucky also makes jabs at Devon's dead mom.
  • Look Both Ways: How Jennifer Tilly in the Tiffany doll meets her end after escaping.
  • Mercy Kill: With Jennifer Tilly being wanted for crimes she didn't commit, her original body having been abused for years by a hedonistic sociopath, and seeing her sister Meg get killed in front of her, her death comes as a relief.
  • Oh, Crap!: Nica has a bewildered reaction to unintentionally shooting Glen when she was aiming for Tiffany.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: When Father Bryce asking the Pope if he can perform an exorcism on a possessed killer doll gets him excommunicated, he decides to go rogue, citing his duty to his faith and to the children in his care as he prepares the exorcism against Chucky.
  • Shout-Out:
    • To The Exorcist up to and including Chucky vomiting green sludge on Father Bryce.
    • To The Fury with Father Bryce's demise being a homage to Ben Childress'.
  • Signature Laugh: Dr. Mixter lets out a very... familiar one as she drives away following what seemed to be Chucky Prime's demise.
  • Splash of Color: The confessional scenes are filmed in black and white with few things being left colored (the red outline on the lapels of Jake's uniform, Glenda's hair, Andy and Sister Catherine's clothing, Mixter's lipstick etc.)
  • Taking the Bullet: When Nica tries to shoot Tiffany, Glen jumps in the way to protect their mom, getting shot instead.
  • Undying Loyalty: Despite of learning what their mother did, Glen protects their mother from being killed by Nica, getting severely shot in the stomach.
