Recap / Carmen Sandiego S 3 E 03 The Haunted Bayou Caper

Go To

In New Orleans, Carmen, Zack and Ivy infiltrate a charity event in a haunted mansion.

  • Bedsheet Ghost: Ivy drapes a sheet over Red Drone to make it look like one.
  • Black Comedy: The Crawfish King is serving his crawfish while dressed as The Grim Reaper.
Crawfish King: Crawfish? They're to die for...
  • Breather Episode: Coming after the ending of "The Day of the Dead Caper" when Carmen gives a funeral for the father she never knew and before Shadow-san reunites with his brother in "The Masks of Venice Caper", this is the most comedic episode of the season.
  • Brick Joke: The Chief tells Chase that she'll haunt him if he doesn't have Carmen by midnight. The end of the episode has Chase drop his communication pen off the roof and it lands in front of Zack and Ivy, to which Chief screams "LET THE HAUNTING BEGIN!!!"
  • Chekhov's Gun: Red Drone's ghost costume comes in handy when Carmen spooks Paper Star with a story involving the ghost of the Crawfish King's great-great-grandmother.
  • Cool Sword: Paper Star tries to fight Carmen off with one. Made from foil.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Paper Star brushes off the notion that Carmen would try to save the crawfish seasoning recipe for any reason other than material gain.
  • Evil Counterpart: This episode introduces us to The Troll, V.I.L.E.'s answer to Player.
  • Evil Is Petty: Paper Star finds the secret recipe for The Crawfish King's crawfish and is willing to fold it to her whims just because.
  • For Halloween Im Going As Myself: Tigress and Paper Star attend the Crawfish King's party in their normal outfits. Tigress mocks Paper Star for this, pointing out at least hers can pass as a costume.
  • Halloween Episode: The episode takes place the Saturday after Halloween but everyone is still dressed up in costumes.
  • Hopeless with Tech: The Cleaners have no idea how to use apps, and The Troll has to guide them. This ends up being V.I.L.E's undoing as Zack and Ivy grab The Crawfish King while they're distracted.
  • Hot Witch: Carmen dresses as one.
  • Never Smile at a Crocodile: Naturally, there are crocodiles in the bayou. Poor Chase gets stuck up a tree while trying to avoid one.
  • Real After All: There's a rumor that the haunted manor has a secret vault. Crawfish King reveals that it's actually true, with the treasure being the secret crawfish seasoning recipe.
  • Something Only They Would Say: The Grim Reaper server handing people crawfish states how they can't give away the recipe for the crawfish to Carmen...which is what the Crawfish King said in his video earlier in the episode.
  • Spell My Name with a "The": The Troll insists on always being addressed as "The Troll" rather than just "Troll".
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Tigress and Paper Star are partnered on this job but they don't particularly like each other.

"Hand him over!"

You really should have clarified it better, Carmen, if you wanted to save the Crawfish King.

How well does it match the trope?
