Go To

Carl's family organizes a Thanksgiving Dinner at home, but trouble arises when more people than intended begin showing up.

Tropes:

  • Awful Wedded Life: Sheila's marriage with John can only be summed up as this.
  • The Alcoholic: While John being a heavy drinker isn't anything new, Sheila excplicitly states that he always wasted her money on alcohol back when they were still married.
  • As You Know: Kylie reminds Grace that Talia's parents divorced and her mother left for the Marine Kingdom during the summer. This is the first time the viewers have ever heard of it.
  • Brick Joke: Logan mentions at the beginning of the episode that he had plans with Kenny on Thanksgiving Day. By the end of the episode Kenny goes to the Mitchells house to pick up Logan, who forgot to cancel.
  • Closest Thing We Got: Linda plans on serving apple pie during the dinner. When Carl tells her that apple pie is not traditional Thanksgiving food, Linda states that the shop was out of pumpkin pie.
  • Closet Shuffle: Carrie and Sally hide inside their wardrobe when Linda tells them to help them get everything ready for the Thanksgiving dinner.
  • December–December Romance: Micheal and Sheila fall in love with each other. Micheal even moves in with Sheila to her house by the end of the episode.
  • Dinner and a Show: It was originally just the Mitchell family, Felix, Grace and Sydney, and Linda and Calvin's father and mother respectively. However, more and more people begin showing up (Dry Bones and Blooper, Talia, Boo and his parents, Roxanne and Kylie, and John).
  • Food as Bribe: More like "Alcohol as bribe". Talia manages to convince Calvin to let her in by giving him a bottle of beer. At the end of the episode, Kenny also gives Calvin a bag full of beer in order to convince him to let him stay.
  • The Food Poisoning Incident: Kylie tells her friends that Emily had to cancel her plans to spend Thanksgiving with her because her father got sick from eating contaminated food.
  • Given Name Reveal: Grace's middle name is revealed to be "Annie".
  • Just Here for the Free Snacks:
    • Sheila accuses John of only coming to the the Thanksgiving dinner for the free food. Later on when Linda says that she got so stressed from cooking much more than she originally had expected that she ended up ruined the meal, John decides to leave, which gets him called out by Sheila.
    • Boo's parents seem to only care about the meal they are going to have.
  • Lethally Stupid: John put Calvin in the oven when he was a baby!
  • The Load: As Sheila tells everyone, John was this during their marriage, not lifting a finger to educate Calvin and wasting her hard-earned money away. No wonder she divorced him.
  • My God, What Have They Done?: The Mitchell family, Staffordshire, Grace's family, Carl's friends, and Boo's Parents feel sad and remorseful for how everyone was acting up while Linda was cooking, as well as the houseguests showing up out of nowhere to attend the Thanksgiving dinner.
  • Noodle Incident: It's anyone's guess as to why John put Calvin inside an oven when he was a baby.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Calvin gives everyone one for stressing out Linda and having the Thanksgiving party go to hell.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: Calvin spends quite a good part of the episode dealing with principal Staffordshire's many complaints about him. He didn't even want her to come and tried to kick her out when she showed up with Felix and Grace.
  • Tempting Fate: After Boo shows up with his parents, Carl tells Calvin that the three of them will be the last ones to be coming to the dinner. Immediately after this, Kylie and Roxanne show up as their partners had to cancel on them.
  • Thanksgiving Episode: The whole premise of the episode.
  • Unwitting Instigators of Doom: Carl and Grace. Them inviting Blooper, Dry Bones, Boo and Talia over to the latter's house for Thanksgiving drove the episode's plot as their friends and relatives let themselves into the house without giving any prior notice.
  • Vomit Indiscretion Shot: John when he throws up in Goomburger.
