Recap / Captain Planet And The Planeteers S 3 E 2 A Creep From The Deep

Go To

Gaia sends the team to investigate after finding out that mutations in ocean creatures are on the rise. The culprit turns out to be Sly Sludge, up to his usual tricks. However, before the Planeteers can stop him, they'll have to deal with a mutated giant squid and a transportation breakdown thanks to a missing part.

This episode includes examples of the following tropes:

  • Clam Trap: The eco-sub gets trapped inside a clam shell after colliding with Sludge's boat.
  • Exact Words: When things begin going awry, Sludge yells at Ooze to do something. Ooze, who is dizzy, falls off the dock. Sludge lampshades that that wasn't the "something" he had in mind.
  • Giant Squid: One of the sea animals affected by Sludge's usual tricks is a giant squid, which attacks the nearby town in irritation. The team has to call in Captain Planet to get rid of it.
  • Is That the Best You Can Do?: When the eco-sub gets trapped by a clam, Wheeler is not impressed with Gi's idea to let them escape. Linka tells him to clam up.
Wheeler: We're gonna try to tickle the clam open? Is that the best you can do?
  • Lame Pun Reaction: Sludge grumbles that dumping trash in the ocean isn't dangerous as he's being forced to clean up...and then gets his nose pinched by a crab which is hiding in a can he picks up. His lackey, Ooze, says that he thinks it can be dangerous and laughs at his own joke. Sludge throws a banana peel at him.
  • Nasal Trauma: While being forced to pick up trash on the beach, Sludge gets his nose clipped by a crab.
  • Nearly Normal Animal: Even though Suchi mostly acts like a typical creature, he understands that the bolt Gi lost while working on the eco-sub was important and goes crazy trying to alert her.
  • Shout-Out: When Gaia shows the team the giant squid as part of the pre-mission briefing, Wheeler quips that he thinks he's already seen this film.
