Recap / Boy Girl Dog Cat Mouse Cheese Staycation

Go To

Cheese has a ticket to a movie premiere which coincides with the family annual vacation to Melody Lake, so she lies to her family so she can attend the premiere instead. However, when Gramps' van breaks down, the others then opt to do a staycation reminiscent to the lake instead, to Cheese's dismay.

"Staycation" provides examples of:

  • Agony of the Feet: In an attempt to walk down the stairs while in her best dress, Cheese takes off her heels so she can tiptoe down inconspicuously. Unfortunately, Cheese ends up accidentally stepping on a toy brick in the process, causing her to scream loudly and catch Gramps' attention.
  • "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: After Cheese confesses to her family the truth, Gramps pointed out to Cheese that she could've just told them that she had a premiere to go to instead of lying to them.
  • Disappointed in You: Upon being told the truth by the Smiths, Gramps and the others became upset at Cheese for lying to them throughout the day and just leave her be as they head back to the backyard so Cheese could go to Posh's movie premiere.
  • Easily Forgiven: When Cheese apologizes to the others for lying to them and wishes to join them on the staycation instead, Gramps easily allows her to join them, stating that family is always welcome on family vacation time.
  • Evil Laugh:
    • Cheese has one when she schemes to try to ruin the staycation in order to make them leave.
    • Stevie and Susie also laugh after having ratted out Cheese's true intentions to her family.
  • The Gadfly: While Boy is paddling on the mini lake, Mouse dresses up as a shark fin to scare him out of amusement.
  • Hoist by Her Own Petard: In an attempt to ruin her family's staycation, Cheese attempts to place a stinky whoopie cushion inside the tent that would detonate and get them to leave the smell. Cat ends up playing with the whoopie cushion, accidentally throwing it on to Cheese's location, causing her face to melt from the stink.
  • Implausible Boarding Skills: Mouse takes out popsicles from the freezer for the purpose of using them as his water skis, which comes to fruition with the small lake that the others are impressed by later in the episode.
  • Jerkass Ball: Cheese spends most of the episode lying to her family that she couldn't attend the trip with them under the pretense of doing a charity when in truth it's so she could go to Posh Daintybottom's movie premiere. Once the others end up staying home and do a staycation instead, Cheese tried to get them to leave through attempting to have the van fixed and later tried sabotaging their fun.
  • Karma Houdini: Stevie and Susie get off scot-free for ratting out Cheese to the rest of her family.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Cheese spent most of the episode lying to her family and even tried to ruin their staycation. Not only do the Smith twins rat her out to the others, causing Cheese to get in trouble with them, but after she's forgiven and allowed to join them, Cat spits a hairball on her as payback.
  • Maintain the Lie: In order to avoid going to the annual trip, Cheese lies to her siblings and Gramps that she is too busy building birdhouses for "sausage dogs", something that the others buy. Unfortunately, due to the van breaking down, Gramps cancels the trip and the others then decide to do a staycation instead, causing Cheese to struggle continuing her deceit while trying to inconspicuously get family to leave the backyard.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Cheese became ashamed at herself upon seeing how she upset her family with her lie and opts out of seeing the movie premiere to fix things with them.
  • Right-Hand Cat: Cheese pets Cat in this manner upon feeling upset at how much fun the others are having.
  • Tempting Fate: When Girl points out to her that her dress might get dirty from sitting on the ground, Cheese doesn't seem to care and shouts that nothing could ruin the moment for her. Cue Cat landing a hairball on her.
  • Unplanned Staycation: The main premise of the episode. Due to being unable to go to Melody Lake with the van's breakdown, Boy eventually opts to the others that they just do a staycation reminiscent to the lake, which works out splendidly for them as they have just as much fun in the backyard as they would have with the lake.
