Recap / Bowser's Koopalings S3 E8 Time Travel Trouble

Go To

Iggy has finished working on his latest invention; the Time Machine. However it is not fully stable yet and warns Larry, who walked into him working on it, to not tell the others. Larry does the complete opposite of what he is told and all the Koopalings except for Iggy get sucked into the machine and end up in different time periods; Ludwig and Larry in 1969, Roy and Wendy in 1919, and Morton and Lemmy in 1019. Iggy now must figure a way to bring his siblings back.

Tropes:

  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: Ludwig describes 1969 as a time full of protests, violence and Scooby-Doo.
  • Covered in Gunge: Morton and Lemmy after the executed koopa's blood splatters all over them.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: King Alfred I has a koopa excecuted because he took an apple from one of his trees. Corin also mentions that he had a man's testicles chopped off simply because he called him obese. Somewhat justified since it is 1019 and people who insulted authority figures usually faced severe punishments.
  • Don't Touch It, You Idiot!:
    • Iggy explicitly told Larry not to touch the time machine or tell others about it. the latter is the first thing he does.
    • Also, when Larry warns the Koopalings not to touch the machine, Morton presses a button, and the rest is history.
  • Hope Spot: When Ludwig arrives in 1969, he sees that he is alone and is reliefed about it. Cue to Larry falling next to him.
  • Gory Discretion Shot: The execution of the koopa in king Alfred's castle. All that is seen is blood splattering all over Lemmy and Morton.
  • Identical Stranger: There are versions of Lucy and Courtney in every time period the Koopalings travel to: Lesia and Corin in 1019, Louise and Catherine in 1919, and Lacey and Candence in 1969.
  • Like Father, Like Son: Bowser I loves alcohol just as much as his son does.
  • LOL, 69: Larry laughs when Ludwig says "nineteen bloody sixty-nine".
  • Noodle Incident: Bowser recalls the time Iggy made a microwave that exploted upon him using it.
  • Shout-Out: When ordering in the first Goomburger ever made, Roy orders two number nines, a number nine large, a number six with extra dip... before being interrupted by the Dedede of that time.
  • Stable Time Loop: As it would later be revealed in "Morton & Lemmy: Fantastic Voyage", Larry and Ludwig ending up in the year 1969, enlisting themselves in the Koopa Troop, infiltrating the Undergrunts Base, and retrieving the Yellow Star is this. They are the two anonymous troopas responsible for the Yellow Star not falling into the wrong hands.
  • Tell Me Again: Larry asks Bowser I to explain them their mission again. When Ludwig complains that Larry has asked about it five times before, Larry says that this time he is asking so that the audience can know about it.
  • Tempting Fate: After Catherine complains about her job at a factory and states that she should have become a housewife instead, Wendy states that getting paid must feel nice. Catherine and Louise then say that it is useless because is not like there is going to be a worldwide stock market crash in the next ten years. Keep in mind, we are in 1919.
  • Those Two Girls: Lesia and Corin, Louise and Catherine, and Lacey and Candence. Fitting given that they seem to be slightly different versions of Lucy and Courtney.
  • Time Travel: The premise of the episode.
  • Trapped in the Past: Iggy didn't want others to use the time machine because he had yet to figure out a way to go back to the original time period. As a result, Morton and Lemmy get stuck in the year 1019, Wendy and Roy in 1919, and Ludwig and Larry in 1969.
  • What Does This Button Do?: Said by Morton before pressing the button that activates the time machine.
  • Yellow Lightning, Blue Lightning: The Yellow Star has electricity-based powers.
