The family adjusts to a huge change for Jennifer as Jefferson continues to work to clear his name.

  • And I Must Scream: Lala's fate is to be frozen in concrete, and as Ishmael explains, this means he will constantly come back to life and die again until the end of time.
  • Artistic License – Biology: Gambi handwaves Jennifer's having a new appearance (and height) despite her DNA being identical to what it was before as 'the same genes expressing themselves differently, like in identical twins'. Needless to say, identical twins never have a divergence this big.
  • Bad Liar: Both Lynn and Jennifer are terrible when trying to act as if the latter is actually Lynn's niece called "J.J." and not her daughter. Naturally, Val Seong doesn't buy it and gives Tobias a photograph of the seemingly new Pierce.
  • Beta Outfit: Due to being too big for her old outfit, Gambi gives Jennifer a placeholder until her new suit is ready. That placeholder looks very similar to Anissa's Blackbird costume.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Jennifer comes to her father's help when he is on the brink of being overwhelmed by the DEG-wielding police.
  • Big Little Sister: Everybody is quick to notice that Jennifer is now a whole lot taller.
  • Continuity Nod: The wider Arrowverse is acknowledged twice, with Jefferson mentioning fighting side-by-side with Superman and Ishmael trying to inaugurate himself into the League of Assassins by killing 100 metas. Although the latter is odd, because when the League was last mentioned, at Oliver Queen's funeral, Thea Queen and Talia al Ghul were going to restructure it as a more benign organization.
  • Curb Stomp Cushion: While he ultimately loses against the much more skilled Ishmael, Lala makes him work for it a little.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Lala clearly did not expect Destiny to have a ninja fighting for her.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Invoked by Jefferson at the news Lopez is going to issue "no-knock warrants" for a part of the city where half the honest residents are packing weapons. Meaning it's inevitable a full gunfight can break out from one raid.
  • Freak Out: Naturally, Jennifer has one when seeing her new body for the first time.
  • Friend on the Force: Hassan proves himself to be this when he informs Jefferson about Lopez's "no-knock warrants".
  • Guile Hero: Gambi gives Lauren the Go board which she defeated him with first, seemingly as a romantic gesture. It actually hides a biometric scanner that he uses to get her retina scan, presumably so that he can access her secret stockpile of promethium.
  • Hypocrite: Lynn gets quite angry with Jefferson when he suggests that she takes a metabooster to confirm what Val Seong's powers are, when he has been admonishing her for it constantly before. She promptly tells him to Get Out!.
  • Internal Reveal: Jennifer is the first of her family who learns that Anissa and Grace are married. She then urges them to go on a honeymoon.
  • I Reject Your Reality: Jefferson has a very hard time accepting Jennifer's change, even briefly wondering if this is someone from another reality. He has to accept it in the end.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Gambi saying that, "This is the new Jen and we're gonna have to live with that," is a not-so-subtle Take That! to the usual fan reactions to a recast.
  • Loss of Identity: Jennifer feels this, unsure how to handle the fact that a completely new face means she can't be herself at school and has to pose as her mom's "niece."
  • Mayor Pain: What Tobias plans on becoming.
  • Mythology Gag: Jen taking the name "J.J." is possibly a reference to J.J. Thunder, another African-American teen hero who, like her, first appeared in Kingdom Come.
  • Oh, Crap!: Jefferson and Gambi when they hear Tobias is running for mayor.
  • Out-Gambitted: Lala is once again successfully played by Destiny, though with far more horrific consequences this time.
  • Parrying Bullets: Ishmael parries Lala's shots with his swords.
  • The Reveal: Val Seong is a metahuman too, and possibly the one who killed Billy Black.
  • Shipper on Deck: Jennifer says Anissa and Grace are the best couple she knows.
  • Shout-Out:
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Both Anissa and T.C. give Jennifer some much needed pep talk.
