Recap / Birds of a Feather CS12: We Gotta Get Out of this Place

Go To

  • Date First Aired: 24/12/2020

It's the final episode (probably for real this time) and we begin by seeing how Dorien and Tracey are doing during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Not too great as it turns out, since they're pulling out all of the safety measures to protect themselves from the virus, such as spraying antibiotics on everything. Sharon is absent, thanks to having become trapped on a cruise that had to be placed in quarantine and with limited internet access.

At the prison, Tracey meets with Jordan, where she complains about Dorien. Jordan is hoping to be back at her nan's for Christmas, although she plans to keep in touch with Tracey. Meanwhile, Dorien now has a new boyfriend named Graham, who she met through online dating. However, Tracey is annoyed about this, especially since he could have the virus. Making matters worse, Dorien struggles to get food from outside the house so she asks Tracey if she could do the cooking. Tracey agrees in the end, as long as she can have the Christmas decorations she wants.

Graeme arrives and the two hit it off, though Tracey doesn't like the way the relationship is going, and Dorien has to get a tooth extracted during the dinner. Afterward, Tracey finds out from Jordan that she won't be able to meet her nan. Tracey thus offers to let her stay with them, much to Dorien's annoyance.

Jordan is introduced to the house, which Dorien takes a liking to. As she and Graeme bond even further, Tracey tries to call Sharon. However, Sharon is busy, and Tracey instead talks to a man named Romeo Diego Rodriguez Vargas Espinoza, who's apparently become her husband.

The next day, Dorien is expected to pay. That, and the fact that Graeme stole her pen leads to him being revealed to be a conman. Jordan eventually comes over proper for Christmas and to their surprise, (and ending the series as a whole) they find that Jordan fills the exact role that Sharon did when she was around.

Tropes In This Episode:

  • Christmas Episode: The twelfth and final one.
  • The Disease That Shall Not Be Named: Although it's clear from the safety precautions used that the disease spreading throughout Chigwell is COVID-19, it is never actually named, at most being referred to as "the dreaded".
  • Extra-Long Episode: The episode is 30 minutes long, longer than the approximately 20 minutes long run that the show was utilizing at that point.
  • Evolving Credits: With Sharon's absence, the credits are modified for the last time, lacking the imagery of previous credits and becoming a Title-Only Opening in the process.
  • Grand Finale: Retroactively becomes this with the cancellation of the series by ITV, although it plays out more like a regular episode than anything really dramatic.
  • Happy Place: Dorien's has her sipping a drink in front of several naked but muscular men.
  • Noodle Incident: Apparently, Dorien once kept Deliveroo delivery man hostage for five hours, leading to her getting blacklisted from them.
  • Offscreen Inertia: The last we hear of Sharon, she has been stuck on a cruise ship abroad for months. With the cancellation of the series, for all we know, she could have never been able to leave the ship or even died on there.
  • One-Shot Character: Romeo Diego Rodriguez Vargas Espinoza, and Graeme.
  • Overly Long Name: Romeo Diego Rodriguez Vargas Espinoza. It doesn't help that Sharon (who already has a long surname) has married the guy during her trip on the cruise.
  • Special Guest: Les Dennis as Graeme.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Jordan is revealed to be somewhat slobbish and lazy in nature, much like the absent Sharon, which is something noted by the other two girls.
  • Terrified of Germs: Even with Covid around, the girls' reactions are slightly over the top, with Tracey spraying disinfectant on everything and putting her shoes in soapy water.
  • The Tooth Hurts: Dorien hurts her tooth on a plum pudding and has to get it extracted.
  • Written-In Absence: Sharon's absence in this episode is explained as her being quarantined in Costa Rica.

Dorien's Happy Place

Whilst she's getting a tooth removed, Dorien is encouraged to think of her happy place. It's exactly what you would think from a woman with an extremely active sex life.
