GoGo and Fred dive deep into comic book mythology to try to find a way to defeat High Voltage, a mother-daughter duo who use electricity and the art of dance in their crimes

Tropes in this episode include:

  • Actually, I Am Him: When GoGo and Fred arrive at Richardson Mole's comics store, she asks the kid at the counter to get Richardson. The kid tells her that he is Richardson.
  • Arch-Enemy: Richardson Mole seems to have it out for Fred. And Fred isn't really fond of him either.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Karmi. She perfected it to the point she can even switch to her nice persona just as the door opens.
  • Brain Bleach: Fred wants some after seeing the controversial scene in Issue 188.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: High Voltage are incredibly intent on their branding as supervillains, going so far as to blatantly perform their crimes in public to an adoring crowd.
  • Clark Kenting: For some nutty reason, Karmi does not notice that Hiro and his superhero counterpart look alike. Invoked by Fred at the end of the episode.
  • Companion Cube: Karmi's virus samples. She puts animal stickers on her petri dishes, and talks to them, though they are all named as you would expect a virologist to.
  • Cut the Juice: The heroes defeat High Voltage by neutralizing their power source.
  • Dance Battler: High Voltage.
  • Dartboard of Hate: Richardson Mole has modified all his arcade games, including a Whack-a-Mole, to feature Fred, so he can take out his frustrations on him.
  • The '80s: High Voltage uses this aesthetic.
  • Mind Wipe: Honey Lemon attempts one with her "Amnesiachino".
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: GoGo and Fred look for Issue 188 specifically to look for a way to defeat High Voltage. Fred, however, fails to find it, instead focusing on confirming Clark Kenting for Hiro. However, Fred's story of how Richardson cut the power to his home to outbid him on the issue inspires GoGo to find a solution.
  • Take Our Word for It: The titular Issue 188 was pulled from stores because of its allegedly indecent content, but the viewers never get to see it for themselves. Fred and Richardson are disgusted by it, but it doesn't bother GoGo.
  • Wham Shot: Obake's face starts glowing.
