Go To

Azmuth arrives to inform Ben of the true history behind Ascalon.

  • Anti-Climax: George charges at the seal intending to slay the Diagon...only to find that with the seal broken, the creature can appear from anywhere.
  • Blatant Lies: Azmuth gives a Badass Boast insinuating that he can strip George of the sword...before telling Ben to take it for him. He's more than happy to oblige.
  • Call-Back:
    • George’s new base is the relocated Area 51, which he teleported back in "Prisoner Number 775 is Missing".
    • Ben and Kevin warned Julie back in "The Flame Keepers Circle" that introducing alien technology to a planet whose inhabitants don't understand it would lead to disaster. Here, an unidentified thief steals Azmuth's sword and tries to use it to put an end to the civil war on the Incursean homeworld, only to end up destroying the planet because he doesn't know how to use the sword's power.
  • Comically Missing the Point: While Gwen is amazed at Old George regaining his youth, Ben is more amazed he doesn’t have helmet hair.
  • Curb Stomp Cushion: Fasttrack is initially downed in one shot by George wielding Ascalon… and then the fight continues for a few minutes.
  • Failed Attempt at Drama: Sir George makes a grand show of taking out his sword, declaring that he will finally destroy Diagon, and charges at it with ferocity...only to discover that Diagon isn't actually there. Cue an embarrassed George awkwardly walking back to the main characters.
  • Hero's Evil Predecessor: George is this to Ben, being granted an invention of Azmuth to battle a tentacled villain (Diagon/Vilgax).
  • Infinity +1 Sword: Ascalon turns out to grant its wielder Reality Warper powers.
  • Insistent Terminology: Azmuth is annoyed that everyone refers to Ascalon as “magic”.
  • Jumped at the Call: Ben is ecstatic when Azmuth tells him to take the sword from George, because "Azmuth WANTS me to fight."
  • The Lost Lenore: Azmuth admits that most of his scientific endeavours since creating Ascalon and seeing what it did to the Incursean home planet are to get the attention of his former flame Zenith.
  • My Greatest Failure: Azmuth considers his creation of Ascalon to be this, since it drove away Zenith and ended up destroying the Incursean home planet.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Azmuth gave the sword to Sir George so he could defeat Dagon. While the knight ultimately succeeded in banishing Dagon back to his dimension, Sir George became the founder of the Forever Knights.
  • "Not So Different" Remark:
    • Azmuth claims that the hologram is supposed to show he was "once as young and stupid as (Ben is) now".
    • After Ben notes that Azmuth was too wrapped up in his work to take notice of his girlfriend, Gwen points out that he hasn’t called Julie in a while.
  • Nothing Is Scarier: When Ben, Gwen, and Kevin are shown Sir George's battle with Dagon, the trio are horrified by the violence of the creature's defeat and beg Azmuth to change the scene. We aren't shown what George did to Dagon in this scene.
  • Pop-Cultural Osmosis Failure: Azmuth assumes the idea of being invisible and intangible to holographic projections of the past is an unfamiliar concept to humans, to which Ben says “Not if you’ve seen A Christmas Carol”. Azmuth of course has no idea what he’s talking about.
  • The Reveal:
    • Azmuth reveals himself to be the creator of Ascalon, having made it after being inspired by a planetary alignment. After it ended up destroying the Incursean homeworld, Azmuth would give the sword to Sir George, who would name it Ascalon and use it to defeat Dagon.
    • George is revealed to have been born in Ancient Rome as Georgius, having gained immortality prior to his meeting with Azmuth.
  • The Unreveal: George decides to not tell Azmuth how he became immortal.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Azmuth is indirectly and unintentionally responsible for the Incurseans becoming an intergalactic race of invaders, as his sword would end up being stolen by a thief who tried to use it to stop the Incursean civil war on their home planet, but ended up destroying it instead. Azmuth can only look at the remains of the Incurseans’ home world in horror and shame after seeing what his sword has done.
  • You Fight Like A Girl: George claims this of Kevin after he resorts to hair pulling as a tactic. Cue the actual girl Gwen attacking.
