The upcoming state exam, and Beavis and Butt-Head have to pass.

  • All for Nothing: The extra help was all for nothing, as the duo understood none of it, and to top it off, they didn't even complete their tests beyond writing their names.
  • Bait-and-Switch: After the tutoring session, Butt-Head realizes that he understood something... number two pencil. All of the teachers, minus Van Dreissen, promptly leave the room.
  • Brick Joke: Earlier, a psychologist tells Beavis and Butt-Head to make friends with their stress as a way to cope with test pressure. When McVicker suffers a breakdown after realizing the duo didn't even do the test, Butt-Head remarks he should make friends with his stress.
  • Cheaters Never Prosper: McVicker attempts to complete the duo's tests for them, but Van Dreissen decides to report it. McVicker, in response, tries to fire him so he can't do so. Nevertheless, he gets in trouble anyway.
Newscaster: Principal McVicker, do you care to comment on the charges?
McVicker: It's not me! It's them! They're ruining our school! They ruin everything! (drives off)
  • Epic Fail: It takes three hours for Beavis and Butt-Head to write their names.
Beavis: Yeah, I wrote my name too. See? Beafis. Now, wait a minute. That's not right.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: McVicker is eventually proven right that the extra help won't do anything, much to his ire.
  • Mondegreen Gag: McVicker tells Beavis and Butt-Head about the "No Child Left Behind" law, to their confusion.
Butt-Head: Did you just say something about a child's behind?
Beavis: Yeah, he definitely said something about a child's left behind. I heard him.
Butt-Head: (to McVicker) No wonder you're gonna lose your job.
  • Never Learned to Read: The duo spends several hours simply trying to write their names. And Beavis can't even do it correctly, writing his as "Beafis".
  • Rage Breaking Point: McVicker was already on edge from the duo's stupidity putting the school into debt, but he finally loses it when he finds out that Beavis and Butt-Head wasted time by writing their names instead of doing the actual test. He even lashes out at Van Driessen and fires him because he threatened to report him to the school board.
McVicker: What's wrong with you?! I'm not gonna let you ruin everything! You're not gonna rob me of my pension! I could do better without even looking at the questions. A, C, E, B, C... it doesn't even matter.
Van Driessen: Principal McVicker cheating? I'm afraid I'm going to have to report this, m'kay?
McVicker: Yeah, well you can't report it because you're fired! It's your fault that they're so damn stupid!
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Van Dreissen tries this, offering to volunteer to tutor Beavis and Butt-Head and letting them stay to complete their tests long after everybody has gone home.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: The teachers do this when they realize the tutoring session didn't work.
  • Take That!: To the "No Child Left Behind" law. If Beavis and Butt-Head don't pass, the school's average will go down and McVicker will lose his job.
  • Villainous Breakdown: After Beavis and Butt-Head finish writing their names for the past several hours, McVicker loses his temper, kicking a chair in response. He then lashes out at Van Driessen when the latter disapproves of his cheating, firing him and openly blaming him for the duo's stupidity.
