Recap / As Told By Ginger S 3 E 02 Wicked Game

Go To

Ginger returns to school from the Fine Arts Academy but now she and Darren are inseparable. This angers Dodie who misses her best friend and she and Macie fall easy prey for Miranda and Mipsy's scheme to break them up.

Tropes Found in this episode:

  • Armor-Piercing Question: After Ginger learns that Dodie and Macie have been working to sabotage her relationship with Darren, he suggests that they try and see it from their point of view. A tearful Ginger stops him with this:
Ginger: Would you ever do something like this to a friend, no matter how hurt or upset you were?
    Darren: No. I-I wouldn't.
  • Blind Without Them: Noelle loses her glasses in a bet early on and clearly struggles to see until she gets them back.
  • Comically Missing the Point: During when Courtney is telling Ginger how her two best friends are conspiring with Miranda and Mipsy to break her and Darren up:
Ginger: Why would my two best friends want to ruin something that makes me happy?
Courtney: Why do they make children's aspirin so difficult for small children to open?
Ginger: Actually, Courtney, they do that so kids won't...
Courtney: My point is this: there is no greater fury than that of a BFF scorned.
  • Downer Ending: With Courtney's help, Ginger busts Dodie and Macie for conspiring with Miranda and Mipsy in Relationship Sabotage. The episode ends with Dodie leaving a tearful apology on Ginger's answering machine.
Dodie: Ginger, are you there? (sniffs) Ginger, please pick up! Look, I know you don't wanna talk to me right now, and I don't blame you. But I have so many things that I wanna say. Starting with... I am so sorry.
  • Engineered Public Confession: Courtney gets Miranda, Mipsy, Dodie, and Macie in a conference call to discuss their plan to break Darren and Ginger up... but unbeknownst to the 4 conspirators, Courtney has Ginger and Darren listening in on the call as well.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Courtney may be a bit of a spoiled rich girl, but she's appalled at what Miranda has done and helps Ginger find out the truth.
  • Glasses Curiosity: Noelle loses her glasses in a bet to Polly Shuster, who later wears them for a little while.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Dodie becomes so jealous of Ginger and Darren’s new relationship that she conspires with Miranda and Mipsy to break them up.
  • Lost Him in a Card Game: Noelle loses Carl (along with her glasses and shoe) in a bet with Polly Shuster, meaning he has to spend the weekend playing Parrot World with Polly.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: This is Dodie and Macie's reactions after realizing that Ginger and Darren overheard their plan to break them up. Even Miranda and Mipsy seem to feel a little guilty.
    Dodie: Macie…?
    Macie: That was Ginger.
    Dodie: What have we done?
  • Oh, Crap!: Miranda, Mipsy, Dodie and Macie all have this reaction when they realize that Courtney had Ginger and Darren listening in on their plan. Though in the latter two's case, it's this mixed with My God, What Have I Done?, as shown above.
Ginger: (solemnly) Thanks, Courtney. I've heard enough. (hangs up)
    Miranda: That… was Ginger?
    Mipsy: It was an ambush!
  • Out-of-Character Moment: While Dodie conspiring to break up Ginger and Darren sadly isn't that much of a stretch, Macie actually getting involved with it too is quite out of character.
  • Relationship Sabotage: Dodie and Macie plan with Miranda and Mipsy to break Ginger and Darren up. Fortunately, Courtney tells the couple what their planning before they get to enact it.
    • It's also implied that Blake is planning to do this to Carl and Noelle with the pictures he took of Carl enjoying the Parrot World game with Polly.
  • Spanner in the Works: Courtney was lucky enough to overhear the plan to break Ginger and Darren up, allowing her to warn the two and organize a sting operation to expose Miranda, Mipsy, Dodie and Macie.
  • What You Are in the Dark: When she's by herself and discovers that Miranda and the others are trying to destroy Ginger's relationship with Darren, Courtney reacts with total shock and outrage and takes it upon herself to help Ginger. Courtney managed to prove she is without a doubt one of the best friends Ginger ever had. She even makes it a point to mention, when she has Ginger listen into her "joining in with the plan", that she takes no joy in any of her pain.
  • With Friends Like These...: Dodie and Macie plan with Miranda and Mipsy to break Ginger and Darren up.
