Recap / Arrested Development S 5 E 8 Premature Independence

Go To

The parade of the 2nd of July (two days early... long story) is fast approaching. With Lindsay still nowhere in sight, Tobias ropes in DeBrie Bardeaux to take her place in the parade and forces Murph to join in as a clown. Buster gets a leave to join the parade as well.

Michael gets his hands on the main piece of evidence that could exonerate Buster: a picture of Lucille 2 and Oscar heading to Mexico and plans on using it against his parents whom he still think are responsible for Lucille 2's disappearance. Unbeknownst to him, the picture is actually of George Michael and Maeby wearing wigs during their previous trip south of the border.

GOB manages to rope in Tony Wonder for his magic show, but their collaboration turns out to be very short-lived.

The Arrested Development episode "Premature Independence" provides examples of:

  • Applicability: In-universe. During the 2nd of July parade, De Brie, feigning being Lindsay covers herself with a mantle to hide her face in the float. The message it sends is interpreted by each one depending on their own biases, but it ultimately offends all of them.
    Old Man: She's a muslim!
    Woman: She's disrespecting muslims!
    Little Girl: She's a ghost!
    Young Boy: She's disrespecting ghosts!
  • Crisis Catch And Carry: Tobias carrying DeBrie into the emergency room (and bumping her head on the door). Then he does the same with his son in his clown costume.
  • Passive-Aggressive Kombat: Lucille and Sally have such a duel at the parade.
