Michael is convinced his parents know about Lucille 2's disappearance and wants to bring them into the light by first scaring them into burying evidence. Barry provides just the piece of evidence he needs: the family stair car has been last seen (and photographed) in Mexico.
George Michael is worried when Rebel goes back to Mexico for reshoots, since he knows she would meet her ex there whom he suspects to be Michael, especially since finding out Michael was at Ron Howard's. And George decides to get to the bottom of what happened to his masculinity in the desert by going back there, arousing Michael's suspicions. And so the three generations of Bluth men follow each other to Mexico over misunderstandings and meet Tobias there.
Meanwhile GOB mistakes a closet conversion store for a gay conversion club and ends up working on a magic show for the upcoming parade with them.
The Arrested Development episode "Rom-Traum" provides examples of:

- Hypocritical Humor: Michael tells his son that he is a 20th-century guy and not into futuristic stuff like Instagram. Followed by him ordering his self-driving car to pull out of the parking lot.
- Kubrick Stare: George Michael has this expression in when tailing Michael at the border crossing to Mexico, and hearing him lie about his whereabouts while George Michael is merely a few cars away from him.
- On Second Thought: George Bluth Sr. acts defiant to the Mexican cowboys until they do a Dramatic Gun Cock upon which he asks for pen to sign over his land to them.
- Pulling the Thread: Played for laughs. Michael does it to his father when following him in the car on his way south and then calling him to ask how the drive north is going. George Sr has trouble keeping up the lie when an ice cream truck passes by. Then George Michael does the same thing to his father.
- The Reveal: The reason for George Sr's transformation in the previous season turns out to be because of Lucille replacing all of George Sr's Viagra pills with estrogen pills.George Sr.: Maybe she figured that if she was going to do hard time, I was going to do...
