Tropes
- Blatant Lies:
Beatrice: Does that mean I can marry Frederick?
Lillian: I'm sure that's what it means.
- Deliberate Values Dissonance: As it is the norm for the show. The police officers dismiss Lillian once she accuses her husband of hurting her.
Officer O'Connor: Well, the rule of thumb clearly states that a man can discipline his wife with anything nor thicker than his own thumb.
Lillian: That's the dumbest rule I have ever heard of!
Officer O'Kelly: And that, my dear, is why your husband hit you.
- Double Standard Rape: Female on Male: Played for Laughs. Garfield the valet is traumatized after being "ravished" by visiting dowager Pussy Von Anderstein. The rest of the household dismiss his plight; Peepers, in fact, insists Garfield should be proud of his ravishing, and Hamish tells him that's what he gets for wearing "an inviting little valet uniform".
- Jerkass Has a Point: The officer's opinions about domestic abuse and women aside, it is correct that Lillian merely walked into a door.
- Gay Best Friend: Albert is this to his wife Beatrice
- Historical Domain Character: Charlie Chaplin.
- Officer O'Hara: The two Irish-American police officers fit into this trope, along with Oirish names and accents.
