Anne and Polly vow to experience the city like locals, but end up on a wild ride through the streets of Newtopia.

    Full Recap
TBA...

Tropes:

  • The Cameo: The robot from the previous episodes finally reaches Newtopia's outskirts, and can briefly be seen sitting on a cliff outside the city.
  • Can't You Read the Sign?: Part of Anne and Polly's trouble comes from the fact that they can't read Newt, with the signs looking like squiggles to them. One such incident was when Anne tried to use the credit card she had to cover the damages to the food vendor's stand, only for him to say his sign clearly said "Cash Only".
  • Chekhov's Gun: Anne uses Polly's reaction to the vendor's extra-spicy ant rolls to drive off the angry mob chasing them.
  • Continuity Nod: Hop Pop says he doesn't want Sprig wandering off after "the ancient ruins incident" in "Fort in the Road". Speaking of which, the robot from the episode is shown sitting on a cliff outside of Newtopia.
  • Cross-Cultural Kerfluffle: Anne gets on the bad side of some locals for fooling around with a "goofy puppet"... that happens to represent a great Newtopian war hero, Igor the Brave. She and Polly end up getting chased with Torches and Pitchforks after she accidentally damages it.
  • Cultural Posturing: Anne believes that because she's Thai she'll be able to handle whatever spiciness the local cuisine can offer. She's so very wrong.
  • Fire-Breathing Diner: Anne and Polly end up spewing flames from their mouths after trying some "extra-spicy" Newtopian cuisine, which is a burrito with fire ants. Polly even takes off like a rocket!
  • Flashback: Anne has a flashback to a vacation she took with her parents. Her mother wouldn't let her eat the local food because her "California stomach" couldn't handle it, instead handing her a baggie of trail mix and baby carrots.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: Just after Marcy enters the secret passage, a mysterious smile briefly appears on King Andrias's face, indicating he has something planned.
  • The Guards Must Be Crazy: After losing sight of Anne and Polly, one of the guards declares they'll never find them in such a big crowd. He even admits he's just being lazy to his co-worker.
  • Implausible Deniability: When the vendor exclaims that Anne and Polly torched his stand's roof, Polly yells "Prove it!" even though she clearly has an Ash Face.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: Sprig insists that Anne and Polly won't leave him with Hop Pop. Cut to them doing exactly that.
  • Interspecies Adoption: Hop Pop refers to Anne as his "adopted granddaughter".
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Polly points out it had been a while since she and Anne had been on an adventure with just the two of them.
  • Little "No": Marcy gives one when she pleadingly asks if the tapestry she ruined wasn't hundreds of years old, and Andrias says it wasn't. It was much older.
  • Meanwhile Scene: The episode ends with Marcy and King Andrias discovering a hidden wing in the Newtopian library.
  • Portmanteau Couple Name: Invoked In-Universe. Much like "Spranne against the world" from season 1, Polly and Anne initially are "P'Anne", before they decide it sounds terrible. At the end, Polly tries to suggest a better name, "Annolly". Sprig and Hop Pop thinks that's even worse, but Anne loves it.
  • Rapid-Fire "No!": This is Sprig's response to learning Hop Pop handcuffed him to keep him from wandering off.
  • Sequel Hook: Marcy and King Andrias discover a hidden passage in the library and head into it for answers about the Calamity Box, reasoning why Marcy is absent for the next two episodes.
  • Shown Their Work: Thai chilis are really spicy, more so than a good number of hot peppers in the United States. Anne cries about a flashback where her mother refused to let her try the local fare and had her snack on carrots instead.
    • Also, the flashback correctly shows Anne's mother driving on the left side of the road, which is only done in about a quarter of all countries worldwide, including Thailand.
  • Weaponized Car: The burrito vendor's car has a "siege mode" that turns it into a spiked tank with flails.
  • What Does This Button Do?: Marcy finds a button hidden behind a tapestry and immediately declares she's gonna press it.
    "Hmm. I'ma push it. Bop."

"Prove it!"

When Anen and Polly's attempt to try spicy Newtopian food results in the stand being damaged, Polly says the vendor can't prove it was their fault, even though her face is singed.
