Recap / Adventures Of The Gummi Bears S 6 E 19 King Igthorn Part 1

Go To

In the first half of the series' Grand Finale, Duke Igthorn goes on a long excursion to acquire the key to his ultimate victory, the legendary termite Bigtooth. Unfortunately, Zummi takes his absence to mean that peace is finally around the corner and the Great Gummis can finally return. When Igthorn uses Zummi to slip his new termite into Gummi Glen, the Gummis are forced to flee as their home is destroyed. Things get even worse when Igthorn seizes Zummi and the Great Book of Gummi, followed by coercing Grammi into finally giving him the recipe for Gummiberry Juice. Could this really be the time Igthorn finally conquers Dunwyn?

Tropes:

  • The Bad Guy Wins: Igthorn not only destroys Gummi Glen and captures most of the bears, but finally succeeds in conquering Dunwyn.
  • Call-Back: Igthorn's Gummiberry Juice Factory from the first season episode "The Secret of the Juice" makes a return, now able to carry out its purpose after Igthorn gets the juice recipe.
  • Cliffhanger: The only two-parter in the show's run.
  • Darkest Hour: The episode ends with Gummi Glen destroyed, Igthorn having conquered Dunwyn, and most of the Gummis either captured or MIA, with only a despondent Zummi being the sole bear free.
Zummi: Now, thanks to my carelessness, all our dreams of peace have become a nightmare.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Due to being built to last, none of the Gummis expected the Glen to ever be wrecked, and thus were completely caught off-guard when Bigtooth starts tearing the place apart. As Gruffi notes, the Great Gummis had overlooked one thing: they didn't make the Glen termite-proof.
  • Dramatic Irony: When the Gummis find Drekmore empty, Zummi assumes that Igthorn finally gave up and left with his ogres, while the audience knows they had actually gone on a long quest to find the legendary Bigtooth. The reason they were gone so long was because it took them six whole months to locate the termite, and naturally another six to return.
  • From Bad to Worse: Things were bad enough when Igthorn's termite destroyed the Glen and robbed the Gummis of their home, but things continue to spiral downward when Igthorn captures most of the bears, acquires the Gummiberry Juice recipe and finally conquers Dunwyn.
  • Grand Finale: The first half of the show's ending.
  • It's All My Fault: Zummi naturally blames himself for enabling Igthorn to finally conquer Dunwyn.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Upon finding Drekmore deserted, Zummi believed it was finally safe for the Gummis to come out of hiding. This enables Igthorn to use him to slip Bigtooth into the Glen.
  • Properly Paranoid: When the Gummis find Drekmore empty, Gruffi is the only one skeptical that Igthorn was finally gone, but had little success convincing the others not to let their guard down. His caution is naturally justified as Igthorn was actually concocting his most diabolical plan ever.
Gruffi: (After the Gummis see Igthorn has Zummi and the Great Book) See? I told you finding Drekmore empty was Too Good to Be True!
  • Termite Trouble: Bigtooth is a one-insect wrecking crew, able to devour an entire forest, reduce nearly anything wooden to sawdust in seconds, and completely decimated Gummi Glen.
  • Time Skip: A year-long one occurs following the Gummis finding Drekmore empty, with Igthorn still gone in that time.
  • Trash the Set: Gummi Glen, the home of the Gummis since the beginning of the series, is utterly trashed and collapsed thanks to Bigtooth.
Gruffi: What a waste. Everything we worked so hard for...destroyed.
  • You Are Too Late: Zummi says this of himself when he fails to arrive in time to stop Igthorn from conquering Dunwyn.
