The forty-ninth episode of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, and the second part of the "Quest for the Chaos Emeralds" saga.
Robotnik heads for the time of King Arfur and the Knights of the Hound Table. He meets Merlynx, who hands him the Emerald of Invincibility. Robotnik takes over the throne and makes Merlynx change Sonic's Atomic Relativity Boots to stone. After Sonic finds Merlynx to get him to reverse the spell, he challenges Robotnik to a joust for the kingdom.
This episode provides examples of:
- Agony of the Feet:
- When his Atomic Relativity Boots are turned to stone by Merlynx, Sonic tries unsuccessfully to run, but literally ends up stepping on Tails' toes, putting the latter in pain.
- When Sonic escapes from King Arfur's dungeon, Scratch and Grounder track him down and try to bring him back. Sonic purposely steps on Scratch's toes with his stone boots, putting the latter in pain.
- Be the Ball: Sonic ties Robotnik up into a ball and tosses him towards Grounder. Grounder mistakes Robotnik for one of his rocks and loads him into his catapult, then launches him at Sonic, missing him but hitting a target Sonic paints on the castle wall.
- Beach Bury: Sonic sees a cute girl buried in the sand, and decides to bury himself alongside her. He later decides against it when he finds out that the girl is really an octopus.
- Black Knight: Robotnik briefly adopts this persona when attempting to overthrow King Arfur. He's even called the "Bloated Knight".
- Bowled Over: Scratch fires a cannonball at the Knights of the Hound Table, which rolls onto the ground and knocks them over like bowling pins.
- Comedic Underwear Exposure:
- Robotnik strips the Knights of the Hound Table of their armor with a magnet, leaving them wearing white boxer shorts with red hearts.
- After Tails steals the Emerald of Invincibility from Robotnik, Sonic destroys Robotnik's armor, leaving him wearing white boxer shorts with pink hearts.
- Comically Missing the Point: This exchange between Robotnik and Scratch when Robotnik finds that Sonic has escaped from King Arfur's dungeon:Robotnik: Before I go back in time to get the next Chaos Emerald, I think I'll humiliate Sonic before the entire kingdom. I can't wait to see the look on that Hedgehog's face when I tell him... HE'S GONE!
Scratch: I don't think you have to tell him he's gone, your slowness. I think he knows! Bwahahaha! - Exact Words: Merlynx's spell to turn Sonic's Atomic Relativity Boots back to normal is "Magic spell, when I say when, turn these really big shoes back to slick kicks again". At first, nothing happens, and Tails believes the spell not to have worked. Merlynx then tells Tails that he didn't say "When" yet, and when he says "When", Sonic's boots are back to normal.
- Forced Transformation: The potions that Merlynx make to make him young, strong, and physically fit turn him into an exercise machine, and later a wedge of stinky cheese.
- Growing Muscles Sequence: After Tails steals the Chaos Emerald of Invincibility from Robotnik, he uses it to make himself muscular and beat up Scratch and Grounder when they try to take it back from him.
- Invincibility Power-Up: The Chaos Emerald of Invincibility makes anyone... well... invincible; impervious to physical harm. The catch is that its power is unlocked if the wielder acquires the title of "King of the Hound Table". While he manages to accomplish this until Sonic stops him, the condition strangely didn't apply to Tails when he used the emerald's power.
- Jail Bake: Gwendolyn brings Sonic and Tails chili dogs with nail files in them to help them escape from King Arfur's dungeon.Tails: Wow! I didn't think they knew how to make chili dogs in the middle ages!
(Tails bites into a chili dog and breaks his teeth)
Tails: Ow! I guess they didn't.
Sonic: Let me see that. Gwendolyn may be a lousy cook, but she knows the right ingredients for a jailbreak! - Knight in Shining Armor: Sonic takes on the persona of the Holy Hedgehog to defend King Arfur's kingdom from Robotnik.
- Knighting: Sonic is dubbed "Sir Sonic the Speedy" by King Arfur at the end of this episode.
- Near-Villain Victory: Robotnik defeats the Knights of the Hound Table and forces Merlynx to turn Sonic's Atomic Relativity Boots to stone, rendering Sonic unable to move fast. Robotnik then overthrows King Arfur and becomes the King of Medieval Mobius, making Sonic and Tails his prisoners. Gwendolyn helps Sonic and Tails escape so they can find Merlynx to break the spell and Sonic can help King Arfur reclaim his kingdom.
- Never Smile at a Crocodile:
- After Scratch gets a pot of hot oatmeal dumped on him by Tails, he cools himself off in the castle moat, where an alligator eats him.
- Near the end of the episode, Sonic knocks Robotnik into the moat, where the alligator now chases him.
- Punny Name: King Arfur is a dog parody of King Arthur, and Merlynx is a lynx parody of Merlin.
- Selective Magnetism: Robotnik uses a magnet to strip the Knights of the Hound Table of their armor.
- Shout-Out: When Robotnik comes across Sonic in the castle tower, Sonic paraphrases the American Express commercials.
- Single-Episode Handicap: At the end of this episode's first act, Robotnik forces Merlynx to turn Sonic's Atomic Relativity Boots to stone, rendering him unable to move fast. Sonic has to find Merlynx so he can reverse the spell.
- Taken for Granite: Robotnik forces Merlynx to turn Sonic's Atomic Relativity Boots to stone, rendering Sonic unable to move fast.
- Threatening Shark: In this episode's "Sonic Says" segment, Tails tries to swim by himself and a shark tries to eat him. After Sonic tells the viewers that it isn't a good idea to go swimming by themselves because nobody would be there to help them if something bad happened, he manages to save Tails.
- Time Travel Episode: This episode is the second part of a time-travel story arc, and in it, Sonic travels back to a medieval kingdom.
- Volumetric Mouth: Tails expresses a really painful OUCH when Sonic accidentally steps on his toes with his stone feet.
- You Need a Breath Mint: This exchange between Robotnik and Grounder:Robotnik: WHIP UP A MAGICAL SPELL AND TURN MERLYNX BACK TO NORMAL!
