Basic Trope: When something scary happens, a woman screams.

  • Straight: When the Monster of the Week pops up and threatens to kill the main cast, Alice screams loudly.
  • Exaggerated: All the woman scream, while the men don't.
  • Downplayed:
    • Alice does a slight scream but it's not very loud.
    • Alice lets out a brief cry.
  • Justified: Alice is not as stoic as her friends and she has a right to be scared—a monster threatened to kill her!
    • The monster just killed someone close to Alice in an exceptionally gruesome way: the scream is equal parts horror and anguish.
  • Inverted: Alice mumbles under her breath when the monster does its death threat.
  • Gender Inverted: When the monster threatens to kill everyone, Bob screams loudly.
  • Subverted:
  • Double Subverted: Then, when the monster starts to chase them, they all scream, including Alice.
  • Parodied: Bob doesn't want any women on their team fighting monsters. Charlie calls him out on being sexist, but Bob claims that he's not sexist, he's just Genre Savvy and knows that in monster fight scenes, the women always scream and claims that women are too loud.
  • Zigzagged: Alice and Bob both scream, but Charlie and Diane don't.
  • Averted: Alice does not scream.
  • Enforced:
    • To set Alice up as a Lovable Coward.
    • To let the audience know how scary the monster is.
  • Lampshaded: ???
  • Invoked: The monster deliberately jumps up to surprise Alice.
  • Exploited: Alice's scream lets other people know she needs help.
  • Defied: Alice uses sheer willpower to avoid screaming.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: "How come, in fiction, when the women scream, it's dramatic, but when the men scream, it's funny?! Stop with the Double Standard!"
  • Implied:
    • Someone screams. It is not revealed who but the screamer sounded like Alice.
    • In a silent movie, it's not clear if she can be heard in-universe, or if she is doing a "silent scream".
  • Deconstructed: Alice screams so much that when the monster finds her, her vocal chords are too strained to scream for nearby help and she is killed.
  • Reconstructed: The monster finds Alice who has yet to scream, but it has highly sensitive ears. Alice screams in reaction and the monster gets stunned by the volume, giving Alice time to actually escape.
  • Played for Laughs: Alice screams when she's attacked... because she's a Screaming Warrior.
  • Played for Drama: Alice screams like this when she realises she's in danger.
