Basic Trope: Characters say something when another character is present.
- Straight: When Alice, who is The Ace, is around, other people say "Yowsah, yowsah, yowsah!"
- Exaggerated: "Yowsah, yowsah, yowsah" is the only thing people say to Alice.
- Downplayed: The characters say "Yowsah, yowsah, yowsah" whenever they are impressed and Alice impresses them the most, or only Bob says "Yowsah, yowsah, yowsah" when Alice is around.
- Justified: They are impressed by Alice, because, well, she's impressive.
- Inverted:
- The characters stop talking when Alice is around.
- Alice has a Character Catchphrase.
- The characters say something when Alice is not around.
- The characters make sure not to say something when Alice isn't around.
- Subverted: The characters stop saying "Yowsah, yowsah, yowsah" when Alice is around after the first time.
- Double Subverted: But then start again.
- Parodied: In addition to the people exclaiming the phrase, the animals make noises and it is subtitled "Yowsah, yowsah, yowsah" when Alice is around.
- Zig Zagged: Some characters say "Yowsah" when Alice is around and others don't.
- Averted: There are no phrases associated with characters, or there is no dialogue.
- Enforced: "We need a memetic phrase to spread the word about our show!"
- Invoked: A wizard can't do proper curses yet so he "curses" everyone to say a certain phrase whenever someone in particular is around.
- Lampshaded: "Yowsah, yowsah... why do we always say that when Alice is around?"
- Exploited: To preserve the element of surprise, Bob had people say, "Yowsah, yowsah, yowsah", to notify him that Alice is coming.
- Defied:
- Characters make sure not to talk when Alice is present.
- Jim very deliberately says another word like "Yeesh!" (and varying them, too, else he turns that term into another reflexive catch phrase) when everybody else uses 'yowsah, yowsah, yowsah'.
- "I want to make clear that the next guy to use the word 'yowsah' is gonna lose teeth! Now... let's talk about Alice's...! What did I said?!?!"
- Discussed: "Why do we always say 'yowsah yowsah yowsah' when Alice is around, like she's some sort of TV character?"
- Conversed: "Why do these characters always say that when that one is present?"
