Basic Trope: Bashing something to stop it from working.
- Straight: Bob breaks the timebomb by bashing it.
- Exaggerated: Bob continues to bash the the timebomb after it has already been broken.
- Downplayed: Bob pulls all of the wires in the timebomb at once without causing further damage to it.
- Justified: Bob has no idea how to defuse a bomb and the bomb squad is too far away, so smashing the bomb seems like the only viable option.
- Inverted: The already disarmed timebomb begins working after being bashed.
- Subverted: Smashing the timebomb has only broken the timer. The bomb is still armed and still counting down.
- Double Subverted: Bashing the timebomb doesn't stop the timer from counting down, but it has broken the detonator and the bomb doesn't go off once the timer reaches zero.
- Parodied: The timer on the bomb immediately changes to "OHNO" when Bob pulls out a bat.
- Alternatively, it changes to "OUCH" as soon as Bob smashes it.
- Bob whacks the bomb, and it instantly explodes. After the fog clears up, it is revealed that he somehow survived the explosion. He proudly proclaims that it worked, and nonchalantly walks away.
- Zig-Zagged: While preparing the bash the timebomb, Bob discovers a convenient battery compartment. However, he panics upon realizing there's less than 10 seconds left and whacks it anyway.
- Averted: Bob is part of the bomb squad knows how to properly defuse a bomb. He does so with no bashing required.
- Enforced: "Having the bomb fail like that is not what the script called for, but whatever, let's go with it!"
- Lampshaded: "Oh, no! There's only 30 seconds left!" *He pulls out a bat* "Desperate times call for desperate measures."
- Invoked: Bob carries a bat around to smash a bomb if he needs to.
- Exploited: Bob has both the ticking timebomb and a rampaging Humongous Mecha to deal with. Bob has a brilliant idea.
- Defied: Bob decides running away would be a wiser course of action than trying to disarm the bomb by bashing it.
