Basic Trope: In a Massive Multiplayer Crossover, a new character is added who is just as important as the others.
- Straight: In a Crossover between Evilzulgo and Nigo, heroes Alice and Bob join forces with Sixth Ranger Colin.
- Exaggerated:
- An entire new universe, populated with hundreds of new heroes, villains and creatures, is set up for the Crossover.
- The creators make a whole new Five-Man Band, since it worked with Kyosuke and Sora.
- Downplayed: Colin is an expy of an existing character.
- Justified:
- The Crossover takes place in a universe or location that both Evilzulgo and Nigo are traveling to in order to trade with the people already living there. Of course one or two of the natives will have major roles.
- Collin von Greed caused the whole ordeal to strip mine the other universes of their resources while they are fighting each other.
- Inverted: Two series start out as a Crossover, then split apart. Captain Colin appears in both.
- Subverted:
- In the Crossover, Colin turns out to be a Decoy Protagonist...
- Colin originates in the crossover, but then appears later on in Nigo alonside Bob.
- Double Subverted:
- ...then promptly steals the show when the The Man Behind the Man turns up.
- However, this appearance is not canon.
- Parodied: Colin is an insufferable Scrappy, even to the canon characters. Eventually, he contributes nothing to the plot.
- Zig Zagged:
- There are multiple story threads (or even multiple games), not all of which feature original characters. One thread might even ignore the series involved in the crossover to be set entirely in the newcomers' universe instead.
- The original crossover has several original main characters, each of which becomes a mainstay for any one of the involved series or never shows up again.
- Averted: Only previously-canon characters are a part of the Crossover.
- Enforced:
- The fans are a notorious Broken Base. Having a new hero to focus on prevents arguments between the two fandoms.
- It's a Massive Multiplayer Backdoor Pilot.
- Lampshaded: ???
- Invoked: ???
- Exploited: ???
- Defied: The writers decide against adding Colin for various reasons, and insist having just the canon characters from both series.
- Discussed: ???
- Conversed: ???
- Deconstructed: Colin's presence causes tension between Alice and Bob.
- Reconstructed: ... But eventually they settle into a Power Trio with Alice as Ego, Bob as Id and Colin as Superego.
