Basic Trope: Something happens that interrupts a musical number.
- Straight: Bob sings a song, only to be interrupted.
- Exaggerated: Bob is interrupted before he even starts singing.
- Downplayed:
- Bob has trouble singing while dealing with an interruption, but tries to press on.
- No Reprise, Please
- Justified: Bob wants to continue his song, but an occurrence is too loud or distracting for him to continue.
- Inverted: Bob interrupts a conversation with a song.
- Subverted: Bob doesn't let anything interrupt his song.
- Despite the distraction, Bob continues to play his song.
- Double Subverted: Unless something huge puts the brakes on it.
- Nobody hears him over the distraction, forcing him to stop anyway.
- Parodied: Bob's song is repeatedly interrupted by increasingly ridiculous events, causing him to become more and more frustrated until he just gives up.
- Every time Bob is distracted, he smashes whatever is distracting him with his guitar, human or object. He then pulls another guitar out of Hammerspace and continues.
- Bob is a robot holding a guitar. There is a button on him labelled "DISTRACTION!" that, when pressed, causes the music to slowly stop.
Robot!Bob: What now?- Bob is absolutely determined to play his song without being interrupted. Every time there is a distraction, he starts from the beginning. Eventually, his song gets interrupted at the very end, and he belts out a Big "NO!"
- Zig Zagged: Bob keeps getting interrupted, but continues to play when he is able to.
- Averted: There is nothing present that is a distraction or interruption for Bob's song.
- Enforced:
- Bob is unable to concentrate playing his song by hecklers or loud background noise.
- Bob's musical number is stopped by an emergency.
- Lampshaded: "You know? Whenever we're about to play a heartfelt song, something comes by and ruins it."

"Sorry, Bob!" - Exploited: Bob is a Dreadful Musician, so people interrupt him on purpose to get him to stop.
- Defied: Every potential distraction is removed or contained so Bob can sing freely.
- Bob places a "Do not disturb" sign on his bedroom door whenever he begins playing music.
- "I'm trying to play a song here. Anyone who interrupts me, unless you have a very good reason to do so, is going to know what it feels like to be smashed over the head with a guitar!"

- Bob's song is interrupted by a person. He bashes them over the head with a guitar. Later, he is arrested for assault.
- Reconstructed: So he walks into his closet and pulls out several more guitars.
- Bob somehow gets permission to have a guitar in prison and plays music, entertaining his fellow inmates and even starting a band after befriending other musically talented inmates. Eventually, he becomes quite well-respected and nobody dares to disturb him when he starts playing, knowing that he hates being interrupted.
