Playing With / Impossibly Graceful Giant

Go To

Basic Trope: A gigantic thing being way faster than it has any right being.

  • Straight: Humongous Mecha "Gargantua", which is around 100 metres tall (The Biggest of its squad), can easily pull off moves that Olympic Acrobats are only capable of doing.
  • Exaggerated: Gargantua, which is about twice the size of the Burj Khalifa, can perform some of the most graceful moves known to man without slowing down even a tiny bit.
  • Downplayed:
    • Gargantos' pilot, Flash Young, who is by no means a small guy, standing at a freakish 7'0" and weighing in at 315 pounds of rock hard muscle, can easily pull off moves that Olympic Acrobats are only capable of doing.
    • Flawed Prototype Pantagruel may not be pulling any backflips off anytime soon, but it's eerily faster than it has any right being.
  • Justified:
    • Gargantua's limbs have mini-thrusters on them, which allows it to speed up its limbs.
    • (From Downplayed) Gargantua is in sync with its pilot's own moves. Flash just so happens to be ridiculously athletic and acrobatic.
  • Inverted: Powered Armor "Gnomi", which is around the average height of a human being, is Slower Than a Snail, and can't even take a few steps without tripping on itself.
  • Subverted: At first, Gargantua may look like it's one of those kinds of Humongous Mechas, but really, it's about as much of a Mighty Glacier as expected from a Real Robot.
  • Double Subverted: Its Gargantua HYPER version, however, is even bigger than it and moves thrice as fast.
  • Parodied: A huge series of Humongous Mechas are often seen doing Ballet in their spare time. It looks just as elegant and refined as a typical one. Another Humongous Mecha is also seen breakdancing in the background.
  • Zig-Zagged: Whether or not anything above 12 feet tall is capable of acrobatics is Depending on the Writer.
  • Averted: Gargantua moves exactly as fast as it's expected.
  • Enforced:
  • Lampshaded: "I don't think something that big should be so fast..."
  • Invoked: The material used for Gargantua is much lighter yet way tougher than the previous one, allowing it to move really quickly.
  • Exploited:
  • Defied: "This Is Reality. No way is something that huge going to move as elegantly as a ballet dancer."
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Implied: There are several cutaway shots of Gargantua. First cut, it's at least a good distance away. Second cut, it's somewhat halfway through. Third cut, it's up in your face.
  • Deconstructed:
    • Something that huge moving that fast is definitely bound to tear itself apart due to the sheer amount of force needed to even move as fast as it can move.
    • Gargantua may be extremely fast, but the seismic Shockwave Stomps it does whenever it charges at its target causes tons of damage.
    • Pilots who are more suited to normal mechas are swiftly disoriented the moment they try doing a flip. And once they've become disoriented, they're a sitting duck.
  • Reconstructed: (For 1# and 2#) Just get lighter and tougher material. Then it won't rip itself to shreds next time it tries doing backflips.
  • Played for Laughs: (From Justified #2) Gargantua is extremely acrobatic and agile. Its replacement pilot, Cute Clumsy Girl Alicia P. Navarro... Isn't. Hilarity Ensues.
  • Played for Drama: Trying to pilot Gargantua is horrendously tough due to Gargantua being so much more agile than its own pilot can handle. After thrashing about viciously due to Gargantua's speed, the pilot is quite literally fighting for their life to regain control. God forbid Gargantua moves so ridiculously fast that the pilot is sent flying into the back wall and either paralyzed from the impact or turned into chunky salsa.
  • Played for Horror: Gargantua is under control from an enemy. Not only is it freakishly powerful, it's also uncannily silent due to being so graceful. It's only a matter of time before Gargantua shows up suddenly and decimates the allies.

Check that Impossibly Graceful Giant do like fifty somersaults in order to land a flying axe kick to that Kaiju back at the main page.
