Playing With / Immortality Bisexuality

Go To

Basic Trope: Immortal characters are bisexual by default.

  • Straight: Albert wasn't bisexual as a human, but after being turned into a vampire he discovers a equal lust/desire for both genders, as does every other immortal or mystical he ecounters, even if they identified as straight or homosexual as a mortal.
  • Exaggerated: Albert wasn't even all that attracted to one gender as a human, but the moment he is turned, he instantly becomes an Extreme Omnisexual.
  • Downplayed: But Not Too Bi. Albert finds himself a little bi-curious after being turned into a vampire and immortal, but mostly still is attracted to just one gender.
  • Justified:
    • Its already been established that Everyone Is Bi, so that includes the immortal or more supernatural characters.
    • You live long enough and have enough partners of one sex, you eventually end up having Seen It All (and done it all too!). The only way to experience something new once you've run out of fetishes is to go with the sex you haven't done all these things with.
  • Inverted:
    • Albert was bisexual as a human, but after being turned into a vampire suddenly discovers he only has feelings for one gender. Only mortals seem to be capable of bisexuality.
    • Albert becomes asexual after becoming immortal.
    • Albert experiences the Immortal Procreation Clause and subsequently finds his sex drive waning.
  • Subverted:
    • Albert has feelings of If It's You, It's Okay. In other words, Albert wasn't so much bi as hetero-flexible or homo-flexible.
    • Albert isn't attracted to both sexes, but is willing to seduce people of both sexes as a means of manipulation.
    • Albert is a heteromantic homosexual or a homoromantic heterosexual now that he's immortal.
    • Albert was always bi. He just feels more comfortable coming out nowadays or needed some time to come to terms with it.
    • Albert is bisexual, and people find pictures of him throughout history, making them suspect he is immortal. It turns out they're all faked.
    • While Albert did wind up sleeping with men given a lack of other options he still prefers women.
    • There is a myth that immortals are all bisexual. It turns out that it doesn't have any effect on orientation but a benign case of Screw the Rules, I Have Supernatural Powers!, they no longer feel any need to repress when they have eternity.
  • Double Subverted: Albert is bisexual. He's just in denial.
  • Parodied:
    • The entire vampire race subscribes to the Extreme Omnisexual trope, and often can't catch a meal because they end up running away whilst they're all flirting with each other.
    • Bob, a Heteronormative Crusader, is bit by a vampire and immediately turns Camp Gay/Camp Straight (but bisexual).
    • Illogically being a "perfectly balanced" bisexual is the true secret to immortality.
  • Zig Zagged: It depends on the species of immortal. All vampires and Greek Gods are inherently bisexual, whereas werewolves and Roman Gods are not.
  • Averted: Not all immortals are bisexual.
  • Enforced: ???
  • Lampshaded: "What can I say; I've been alive since Christopher Columbus discovered America. Are you telling me you wouldn't try new things after a while?"
  • Invoked: Bob faces a case of Incompatible Orientation with Albert, so he arranges for a vampire to bite him so he will become immortal and thus bisexual.
  • Exploited: In a homophobic town, the LGBT citizens hang out at the local vampire nightclub for tolerance and maybe a hookup.
  • Defied: Albert refuses to try sex with men after becoming immortal.
  • Discussed: "Why is it that none of us seem to be straight or gay?" "Beats me. I guess you could say that because we live forever, we're more open minded to trying new things, maybe?"
  • Conversed: "What about being immortal makes all the characters in this show bi?"
  • Deconstructed: This side effect of immortality drives a wedge between immortals and the homophobic mortal society. Mortals conclude Immortality Immorality is in play and demonize bisexuals further. New immortals face internal turmoil over it and self loathing while older immortals tend to stop caring about mortal society and their welfare creating a vicious cycle for all involved.
  • Reconstructed: ???
  • Implied:
    • Gina, a human, is visited by a immortal tribe of vampires and they get talking. When a female vampire starts coming on to Gina she apologizes and says she's not gay. The vampire, confused asks "What does gay mean?" The rest of the vampires seem equally confused.
    • Albert is bisexual, and frequently namedrops historical events he shouldn't have been alive during.
    • In a homophobic setting immortals never show any offense at same sex activity unlike mortals regardless of age.
  • Played For Laughs: Albert is a comical Extreme Omnisexual Lovable Sex Maniac who hits on absolutely everyone and has had sexcapades with almost every major historical figure.
  • Played For Drama: Bob has suffered from centuries of life in the closet, hiding not only his immortality but also his sexuality.
