Go To

Basic Trope: A character's clothes are stolen while they are swimming.

  • Straight: Jake Fanservice has his clothes stolen while he's Skinny Dipping in a lake.
  • Exaggerated:
    • The entire main cast goes swimming, and all of them have their clothes stolen.
    • Not only the clothes he was wearing, but all of Jake's clothes in his dresser, his closet, and even those he left at a hotel room are stolen.
  • Downplayed:
    • Jake has his clothes stolen, but he's still wearing a swimsuit.
    • Jake was only swimming in his underwear, so his clothes being stolen doesn't leave him naked, but still in an undignified state of undress.
  • Justified:
    • Jake is being followed by his Stalker with a Crush, who steals his clothes so she can see him naked.
    • Earlier in the series, Jake stole Alice's towel while she was showering, so she gets him back by stealing his clothes while he's swimming.
  • Inverted:
    • Jake goes swimming in his clothes and then strips out of the now-wet clothing once he's back on dry land.
    • Someone brings additional clothes while Jake is in the lake.
  • Subverted: Jake has his clothes stolen while he's swimming, but it turns out he has a spare bag of clothes hidden by the shore in case of that contingency.
  • Double Subverted: Jake wasn't prepared for the thief to steal those clothes too, however...
  • Parodied: A bunch of different characters all try to steal Jake's clothes at the same time, resulting in a Gambit Pileup.
  • Zig Zagged: Jake goes Skinny Dipping in the lake, and ends up having his clothes stolen by his Stalker with a Crush. However, turns out he was prepared for that and brought a swimsuit, but when the stalker leaves, Jake takes off the swimsuit and goes Skinny Dipping anyway, only for the swimsuit to get stolen too...
  • Averted:
    • No one tries to steal Jake's clothes.
    • Jake only wore a swimsuit to the lake, so there's nothing to steal.
    • Jake is either ignorant or indifferent of the nudity taboo, so he's naked all the time anyway.
  • Enforced: Fanservice.
  • Lampshaded: "Seriously, guys? You already tried this prank when I was in the shower yesterday!"
  • Invoked: Jake intentionally goes Skinny Dipping in a place where Love Interest Alice can see him, in the hopes that she'll try for this trope.
  • Exploited:
  • Defied: Jake is aware of the possibility of this trope and wears a swimsuit.
  • Discussed: Mook A: "Hey, Mook B! Jake's swimming naked! Let's steal his power-granting clothes and use them for ourselves!" Mook B: "Huh, what? Were you saying something?"
  • Conversed: "What are the odds, really, that Jake isn't going to catch us stealing his clothes?" "Hey, it worked against Captain Marvel."
  • Implied: It never happens in the main story, but Jake recalls a time when this happened to him in the form of a Noodle Incident.
  • Deconstructed: Despite his good figure, Jake is insecure about his body, and being forced to walk naked past his friends to search for clothes causes him some serious angst.
  • Reconstructed: He gets over it, though, after he gets to use the same prank on said friends.
  • Played For Laughs: Jake's clothes get stolen, but despite the fact that he's wearing a swimsuit, he still acts like he's naked.
  • Played For Drama:
    • Jake is an ex-convict who usually hides his prison tattoo with conservative clothing. Having his clothing stolen while he's swimming reveals the tattoo to the other protagonists, causing them to question his loyalty to The Team.
    • Jake is sexually assaulted on his way home.
  • Played For Horror: A Serial Killer attempts to kill the now vulnerable Jake.
