Basic Trope: Something funny happens in the background, and can be either shown in plain view or not noticeable unless one looks closely.
- Straight: During a scene in "Alice and Bob: The Movie", the titular characters have a conversation. In the background, Charlie is being chased by wild dogs.
- Exaggerated:
- The scene with wild dogs is very prominently shown to the point in which Alice and Bob's conversation almost is the background event.
- There's also Diane riding a dragon, Ethan climbing up walls, and Frank telling his son to wave to the camera because they just realized they're on TV.
- Downplayed: The scene with Charlie being chased by wild dogs is only visible as a Freeze-Frame Bonus.
- Justified: Charlie was bothering a bunch of wild dogs when he was last seen; this just shows the consequences of the action.
- Inverted: The funny event is shown in the foreground and is the main focus of the scene. Optionally, while the funny event takes place in the foreground, Charlie is getting chased by Drake in the background, who wants Charlie dead for non-comedic reasons.
- Subverted: Charlie ends up running into Alice and Bob while he's being chased by wild dogs, causing the background event to become a foreground event with Alice and Bob getting involved.
- Double Subverted: Despite Charlie and the wild dogs running past Alice and Bob, the latter two ignore Charlie's dilemma completely as they continue to speak to each other, and Charlie runs back into the background, his chase continuing on.
