Basic Trope: A fictional/fictionalized version of a real city that contains multiple means for a variety of stories so that the main characters more or less stay in one area.

  • Straight: Trope City is a weird place that contains a team of paranormal investigators, a robot factory, and is the location to an interdimensional portal. Every week, a new adventure begins within its city limits.
  • Exaggerated: Every city in the country is dull and boring except Wowthatisawesome City, which contains clowns cartwheeling down the street, clouds made of marshmallows, and a kaiju.
  • Downplayed: Trope City is a pretty typical city except for the genius who lives there that creates a wacky invention every few weeks that raises a few eyebrows.
  • Justified: Trope City was unknowingly built at a nexus between realities, resulting in it becoming a Weirdness Magnet.
  • Inverted: The whole country is strange and the cities are named accordingly (Dinosaur City, Robot City, etc.) but Trope City is not interesting.
  • Subverted: Despite the name Adventure City, nothing of note usually happens there...
  • Double Subverted: ... but that is because most people don't know of the Masquerade. Vampires secretly live there and regularly get into trouble, and wizards struggle to keep the masquerade in place because of said trouble.
  • Parodied: People from other cities never notice that Trope City is odd.
  • Zig Zagged: Trope City has an entire neighborhood where aliens lived and regularly went on adventures. The citizens decide to kick them out, resulting in their town becoming more normal. They soon realize how dull their city has become and start purposefully acting strange and doing weird stuff in order to spice things up a bit but that soon gets out of hand and they are jaded once their town becomes just a City Of Weirdos.
  • Averted: Trope City is just a normal city with nothing out of the ordinary.
  • Enforced: The writers decide to have their Super Hero live in an exciting, adventurous city in order to have as many adventures as possible without having to leave the supporting cast.
  • Lampshaded: "Ever notice how much weird stuff goes on here?"
  • Invoked: The mayor of Trope City purposefully invites a Mad Scientist to live in the town, hoping that he'll cause enough weirdness to give this city this reputation and increase tourism.
  • Exploited: The people who founded the city knew the area was known for weirdness and thus named it Adventure City.
  • Defied: The Super Hero defeats every villain in Adventure City. After that, the city is just normal and dull.
  • Discussed: Two characters discuss the fact that all the weird stuff happens in their city and the rest of the world seems more normal and bring up various explanations for why that is.
  • Conversed: "In this story, the hero doesn't need to go anywhere since all the weird, adventurous stuff happens in his own town."
  • Implied: As a Running Gag, Bob discusses his hometown and mentions a different strange event or person every time, usually with an "Only back in my city would that have happened" tone.
  • Deconstructed: The citizens of Trope City try to find out why all of these things happen in their city and try to stop it in order to have normal lives...
  • Reconstructed:... They soon realize that the weirdness makes their lives more interesting and resolve to keep it that way, complete with "Keep Trope City Weird" t-shirts.
  • Played For Laughs: Citizens in Trope City have Seen It All and go about their days, treating the aliens and interdimensional gateways the same way they treat their co-workers and the local park.
  • Played For Drama: The citizens live in constant fear due to the craziness of Trope City and try to leave.
  • Untwisted: Trope City seems like an exciting place, but it's mostly a myth used to get tourists to visit ... until Emperor Evulz reveals himself.
