While a lot of the protagonists' ultimate fates are happy, sad, or comedic, there are also many nightmarish endings, not unlike actual gamebooks:
- Another Princess Story: Roya can end up suffering various forms of And I Must Scream (e.g. turned into a statue, doll, pumpkin, scarecrow, or inanimate suit of armor) and Body Horror (e.g. turned into many different creatures, fused into a stolen guard uniform). There's also getting sucked dry by a vampire and having her head and life stolen by a headless rider. One ending is her being corrupted by her mother and becoming an Evil Overlord, which is a positive ending for her, but not so much for everyone else.
- Eliza and Beth don't have it much better; one delightful end is going into a cave and never finding their way out, eventually becoming ghosts wandering for eternity. Another is getting turned into living miniature dolls, resulting in them being smashed offscreen by a possessed Roya doll who flashes one doozy of a Nightmare Face and reassembles their corpses as a lifeless mix of the two a la Sid Phillips, being hunted by a sinister marionette, or used as food to create mimics.
- Cyber Road: Depending on your choices, Ashley and Cara can likewise experience bouts of Body Horror and Transformation Horror, in this case, the unexpected results of genetic or mechanical augmentation. There's also the path where Ashley's body is jacked by the Affably Evil Computer Virus Alice. The original version shows in detail Alice taking over the poor girl's life and role as the protagonist, Otto Octavius-style, but Alice's cutesy design and childlike demeanor lessen it a bit. The Darker and Edgier "True Lore" version, however, plays it entirely for horror.
