Not everything is kid-friendly.

For a game allegedly aimed more towards the younger audience, Let's Go hasn't shied away from the dark aura that surrounded the originals at certain parts.

Moment Subpages are Spoilers Off. You Have Been Warned.

  • Lavender Town returns in all of its glory, and for the first time in years, rendered in full 3D. The town itself looks like it's ready for Halloween, but the real creep factor lies in the Pokémon Tower.
    • Just as before, gravestones completely dot the tower's floors, but now they're accompanied by a ghastly purple mist. When the Trainer interacts with their partner Pokémon, ghosts can be seen lurking in the background, watching.
    • The Channelers make an utterly disturbing return. While it was always clear they were possessed, the limited graphical capability of the Game Boy family kept it relatively tame. In the remakes, the Channelers now have this completely terrifying Thousand-Yard Stare combined with Supernatural Gold Eyes during their battles, making it clear from the first look at their faces that they are possessed.
    • The Ghosts in Pokemon Tower, as you can't battle them, now interact with you completely differently. They follow you throughout the tower — phasing through objects as they please — and if they touch you, warp you back to 1F, telling you to get out.
    • The ghost of Cubone's mother is as creepy as ever, this time in 3D. Its size makes it even more unsettling, to say the least.
  • James' defeated expression is one of exaggerated anger, and it just looks so... off.
  • The 'helping Bill' portion of the game. First, you find your rival north of Cerulean City so flustered he's got tears in his eyes. After you calm him down with a battle, he mentions there's a weird talking Pokémon at Bill's House. Anyone who's played the older games knows what to expect and aren't worried by this, so they go to his house and find a strange Nidorino there who does indeed talk...while standing on its hind legs, which Nidorino are clearly not supposed to do. It's easy to see how your rival was so unnerved by this.
  • When wild Pokémon spawn, they tend to just walk around randomly. Tentacool and Tentacruel, on the other hand, actively hunt you down.
  • The reaction that both Mewtwo and Mew give to the giant tank in the Cinnabar Mansion. They don't even get angry, they just...stare at it, pensively, which makes it even more disturbing.
It's a large container made of thick glass. It looks as if something has been beating on it over and over from the inside.
    • Just the existence of the tanks is a little shocking, to say the least, as previous incarnations never showed anything to suggest a laboratory in the basement. Mewtwo's origins are well-known in the fandom, but you never saw explicit cloning equipment in-game, with the original version of the game saying it was a live birth.
  • After you capture Mewtwo, you encounter Green who, upset that you got Mewtwo first, battles you. Once you win, Green... kind of snaps. She asks if you want to be her Pokemon (again, she is saying this to you), and then... repeatedly throws Poke Balls at you until she leaves.
  • The text for when you wake Snorlax up and it attacks you has been changed to say it has mistaken you for food. In other words, it's no longer just taking a swing at you out of annoyance because you woke it up; it's trying to eat you!
  • On the subject of big Pokémon, the renderings of the heights are relatively accurate to the Pokédex entries. That works fine for mons like Cubone and Geodude, but when you’re in Rock Tunnel, you can also encounter both Golbat and Onix, which are HUGE. Combine this with the tunnel being dimly lit and the Pokémon being able to show up directly in front of you, and this now has the potential to give you a heart attack every time it shows.
  • There’s a moment in the game where you beat your rival, which triggers a cutscene. His face is shocked, and though his mouth closes, his eyes stay shocked as he quietly remarks how strong you’ve become to himself. It isn’t meant to be more than a compliment, but given that the music only returns when he insists that what he said was nothing important can leave some people feeling uneasy.
  • The cutscenes for the Legendary Birds are equal parts this and Awesome Moments—Articuno's Mighty Roar causes ice to form on the POV "camera", as if it's trying to freeze you; Zapdos' arrival is heralded by Pikachu/Eevee having an Oh, Crap! moment as sparks of electricity fly across the area; and Moltres takes a moment to inspect you, seemingly trying to gauge your worth as an opponent.
  • In Saffron, Pewter and Viridian City's music tracks, a wisp of the Cinnabar Mansion theme can be heard; it's similar to the beeps from the older theme from Red, Blue and Yellow. It could just be because the electric tones are similar across themes, but it's still a bit eerie.
