After you calm him down with a battle, he mentions there's a weird talking Pokémon at Bill's House. Anyone who's played the older games knows what to expect and aren't worried by this, so they go to his house and find a strange Nidorino there who does indeed talk...while [[https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DsaLc93UcAAo1xM.jpg standing on its hind legs]], which Nidorino are [[UncannyValley clearly not supposed to do]]. It's easy to see how your rival was so unnerved by this.
